Greetings from the far away land of Michigan's Thumb!

I'm hunting for some insight into Illinois cycle titles. I've been emailing with someone from Illinois about a bike for sale, and I keep getting told it has a title. That's nice, but I'm trying to figure out if it is a off Road Vehicle only kind of title or a Street title that can be registered. The interwebs are full of pictures of Purple Illinois vehicle titles. There are plenty of references to titles that cannot be registered for ATV's and such.

Anyone know how they identify a vehicle as OFF ROAD ONLY on an Illinois title?

It will be printed on the title if its an offroad only or not .

What Stan said. I had a KDX220 with a title that said "Off Road Use Only".

So I'm guessing that the titles all look like this one, but the "Type of Title" field will say something like "For Off Road Use Only"

Not ALL --older IL titles won't have the transfer info on the front ---it used to be on the back (not sure what year that changed). And if the vehicle being purchased is new and not going to titled in IL, you might see a Manufacturer Certificate of Origin--which looks similar and functions similar, but would be a diff document.

It's a 2005, and it reportedly has a title. Just trying to figure out which questions to ask of someone who thinks every answer is "It has a title".

If you're buying it from someone on ADV , its safe to say your chances are limited of being misguided or taken advantage of . Again , IL titles clearly state if its an offroad only vehicle.

I had the same issue and it was an off road title.
