How much mud did you encounter on your ride? I haven't dared take my DR650 off-road because the tires aren't up to the task.. but if it's minimal, maybe I can give it a go. Otherwise I'll have to wait til I get the KLX back together (bent forks, ugh).

It was a bit slippery, but not much in the way of mud. Never is up there really.
Hands down the best place to ride in the coast range in the winter IMO.
Soil is great and while there are puddles, there is usually very little mud.
And im just talking the trails. The dirt and gravel roads are GREAT!

I did hit snow around The middle staging area (elk flats) so i think its best to start at Whip up and explore from there.

Turns better than the XR and way better suspension.
Only complaint really is the turning radius. Other than that it flat rocks the backwoods

The Nestucca area is great and I actually found a bunch of new stuff this weekend.
The OHV trails are nice and there are many great dirt and gravel roads around there as well.
Eventually ended up on the Nestucca river rd and headed to the beach for a bit before looping back.
Sounds like a perfect day! I wish I could afford a Husky... I'd love to trade the XR for a TE449 or 511

20 more hp and 100 pounds less weight would be great!

David,

Great pictures as usual and the bike looks like a lot of fun!

Rob,

Not sure what tires you have on your DR650 but the stock tires would do just fine on the stuff David posted from the Nestucca ride. They even work in snow if you don't get to crazy.

Have you run 705's before? I know they're cheap, but after running a set, I can honestly say, they're one of (if not THE) worst tire I've used. I've had lots of different sets of Shinkos, and liked almost all of them. The 705's are however, are terrible IMHO

Really!?? Wow I'm surprised to hear that. This will be my third set. I LOVE those tires. Very sticky on pavement (almost like a sport bike tire) and better off-road than you'd ever think possible. And i get 6000 miles out of a rear.

They are indeed fairly sticky for what they are, but HATE high speeds (walk like crazy, especially when "pushing it" a bit) and HAAAATE tar snakes. I've never ridden on ANY other rubber that will grab a tar snake SO bad. When they almost killed me about 3 times in the middle of buttfucknowhere Idaho 2 years ago, I couldn't get home and swap them out soon enough!

Nice Seattle pictures. Makes me want to go visit the waterfront.

I agree..... The Seattle pictures look really nice. I especially like the 1st one.

And adding the white frame around them was an excellent choice. It really enhanced the overall look and feel of the photos in this case.

It's called the rule of thirds. Perhaps the most basic point to follow in photography, and one that most people SHOULD understand, but don't. It's why most people's "photographs" suck... there's one giant THING in the middle of the picture, with no framing to direct your eyes toward the subject.

Yes, and if your successful the entire photograph is the subject.
