I jumped into this thread looking for DS rides in the WV but this is a lot more fun. You can find new rides anywhere. LOL

I figure its a good day NOT to get Bruced. As long as temps stay above freezing I should be OK. It was foggy, damp, muddy, and wet, but not that bad a day for a ride.
![]() Feebie Needles is not too far from my home in Copper Hill. So I rode a loop ride down 5 Mile Mountain, picked up Mr. RAT, and rode back up thru Callaway and Adney Gap to Bent Mountain area where I found a nice resting place for Mr. RAT at the Bottom Creek Gorge Preserve area. ![]() ![]() Go down the gravel road into the Preserve a few hundred feet and stop short of the gate in the parking area. ![]() Look to your left for a forked tree. ![]() Mr. RAT is hiding right in the fork of the tree. Snug as a bug under some leaves. ![]() ![]() ![]() MR. RAT enjoyed his first ride on a Beemer! ![]() ![]() While you are at the Bottom Creek Gorge, I hope you have time to take a hike into the preserve. Its easy hiking on a 3 or so mile loop back to the gorge where you can see the 2nd highest waterfall in the state of Virginia. When you depart I recomend going right onto the state route and bear right at all intersections and you'll have a nice gravel/dirt/muddy ride for a few miles and come out at Copper Hill on US 221.

Those are some nice roads you took today if the weather didn't suck. Thanks for the tip about the connection to Copper Hill.
For some reason I thought the Nature Conservancy sold that land a few years back. So it's still open to the public?

Ride today was a bit damp, but I still had fun, Tastro. Now that you mention it, I do seem to remember that the Nature Conservancy was considering closing the Bottom Creek Gorge area. It appears to be open. No signs or restrictions posted. There might be a lot of limbs down once you get in there. Its been a while since I"ve gone hiking in there.

Roanoke motorcycle shops
I want to get a 351 kit for my bike but im not real comfortable opening up my motor. does anyone have a local shop that could swap cylinders for me? maybe even a shop you like and trust? I realize this is off topic, but I think y'all would be the experts.
I also feel like a 351 kit increases my ability to grab the RAT :) |

I wonder if the rat is heading to the NC line (during a wind advisory!)

Don't know anyone that rides from nc sans smart phone. With our non mascot games, and file tags for placement, it can move across the state twice before you ride out and back.
(my first attempt to grab a tag here it did just that. )
