Not 100% sure on classes but I think they are more for bragging rights.
This is a self paced ride so, after the riders meeting everyone is free to go as they please. Some will leave right away, some with leave within half hour or so.

That Ural is awesome. Get stuck in the sand... no worries... kick it into 2wd and take off!

I wouldn't mind swinging a leg over one of them. I was very impressed when it negotiated the sand hill that blocked the closed bridge on the GS ride a few weeks ago.

I wonder if there are trees big enough for my fat arse in a hammock there. I pick up the 400 in the AM so I can figure out if I can even carry camping gear on it. Maybe fab up some simple racks for soft luggage. Guess I need to head over to Sanjoh's and work on that while I help him fab up peg brackets for the DirtNija.
BTW spending the tax refund on a Ural didn't get a lot of traction.

Matt didn't get to ride. His girlfriend made him take her to dinner. Our other roommate got himself a KLR250 and wanted to ride. Took him to moonscape where he had his first heated get off and then figured we needed sand practice. I wish I had a gopro or something similar.

He picked up the one that was in Jacksonville that needs a new ring. Runs fine it seems and starts way easier than mine does otherwise. He's going to put his tax return into it once it comes in.

We're going to see if we can't find any deep, local sand when I get off today.

I have a 0.5mm over piston from my twofiddy project that may be usable. We were out and about today, had fun.

This looks like fun. My question is tires for an 1150GS. I'll be riding from New York. Is this route passable on Tourances, or do I need to mount TKC-80'S? Kind of leery of running TKC80's from NY.

Shit pix but it's my Eagle Nest Hammock at the Scrub from a few years back (year of the Razer porno me think?). Interesting contrast with my neighbor who was a world traviler - me a bar biker. GS vs HD, fancy tent and gear vs hammock and zero gear .

This is a great question, that I can only respond to by saying "it depends". Can you ride with Tourances? Well some of us can. Some of us need all the help we can get, meaning we would prefer TKC80's. "Most" of this route will be very easy to do on Tourances and would be preferred. However, it only takes one little section where the road has gotten a little dry and now it is a challenge. You can get through everything if you are familiar with sand.

Here is the some insight to the "GAME". Our "plan" read intention, is to have go arounds for the "questionable" sections. Everyone will be trying to get as many points as possible for their Class Division. On the route, there will be choices of routes along the way. One way will be a little more questionable and be worth more points. The easier route will be a few less points. The idea is that if one wants as little chance as possible of hitting sand, there will be a way around those sections. That said, this is targeted to the bigger bikes. So for "experienced" riders they could manage all of this with Tourances. However, everyone will get to pick their own way as you go, so hopefully everyone will get a feel as they go.

A note of warning. In riding these roads, one must pay very close attention to the conditions of the road/sand. You can be riding on hard packed sand/clay/limestone type road and then there will be a 30 or 40 yard section where the sand got soft. This is what catches folks out. You are going along nicely, speed keeps picking up, now you are faster than you realize, and before you know it, you are in some "stuff" saying "oh howdy!" So if you keep your speeds down and stay alert, all is good.

SITE sharing available. I just booked Daytona KOA from Sunday the 10th thru Thursday before the ride. Thursday jeknow is joining me. At $90/night I need a bunch of friends to share the space. My tent is plenty big enough for two. Preference given to females, of course. The KOA said there is room for more than one tent at each site so if your tent/hammok/cot fits you can buy in.

Most of the week I plan to be somewhere in Daytona taking photos. Also interested in just hitting the road whenever necessary.
