LOTS and lots of fun to drive. There's something very satisfying about a RWD car's handling. M

"When they come up with low miles... sport package... a manual... and in Xi... they don't last long... for a good reason....
"I took a train to Darien Conn. from Charlottesville Va. a couple of years ago to fetch ours ('01 325xi wagon). Just happened to be scanning craigslist ads and saw it in the New York one a couple of hours after the seller posted it. Called him up and made a deal right then. It had 60k on it then and just turned 100k. The coils started to give us trouble and were replaced (plugs too), and the serpentine belt broke once and left me stranded. But I was giving it the boot on a twisty mountain road at the time - redline in 2nd. Replaced the belt and put on a new water pump while we were there. Had to replace a front left driveshaft joint too. I think that's it other than routine maintenance. Really like the car. Fun too drive, OK gas mileage (+_20 around town), good brakes and handling, comfortable, good utility factor, nice in lousy weather, does great in what little snow we get, and the wife really likes it too, which is good cause it's her DD.

Nice wagon! We've had two. An 02 and an 04. Traded the 04 wagon for an 08 sedan. Regret doing that now. Looking for another wagon to replace the sedan. They are just too handy and still fun to drive. Actually considering the new 3 series wagon available with a Diesel engine. At least I've read that they will be available this year . Congrats on your purchase. Very nice. The first wagon we had was silver too.

Yah, we've had my wife's X3 through my 02 325 vert, 04 530 sport, and having the X3 as the only BMW in the family. I love driving her X3. The wagon is almost identical in feel, and I believe due to gearing the X3 is quicker. Or it feels and sounds quicker.
Happy to have a BMW as my daily driver again. Just does everything well. Agree on the seats, they are awful firm. But that is a BMW thing. It ain't a Caddy. Barry

It's not a track car, wife can't drive manual, so no need for it.

Don't mean to hijack...but my useless 2 cents (Which is actually $0.00 here in Canada)
I have a 2003 X5, I wouldn't recommend ayone getting one of these if they live somewhere cold. Doors latch freezes and you break the latch mechanism ($130 for the part and 4 hours to install), also, the oil/water seperator freezes and blows oil out of the oil cap on top of engine! SLS is crap as well - similiar isses with the Discos! This is my third Bimmer, probably won't be my last, but definitely won't be getting another X5

I am looking at E46 M3 rims (4 fronts, as they fit, rears do not) for the Wagon.

Can you explain your ire and be model specific?

When I win the lottery, the first 6 cars I am going to look for are ALL BMW's. Wanna see the list?
