PaperMate Pump Pen?
They used to make a pen that would write upside down, had a little pump action thing, and sold refills for it.
I was at an Office Depot yesterday and they didn't have any. The lady assistant who was NOT YOUNG had never heard of it. Seemed odd to me. Does this mean I'm getting old?

I know its not the same, but the Space Pen is available in every museum gift shop. Or if your boss is a cheap bastid, you get one with company logo every Christmas. I can send you mine from last year or from any of the previous six years.

And, it was $23.99. Those PaperMates were like $5.00 as I recall. I'm the guy that can't afford a KLR until my truck is paid for, or Toby Keith records one of my songs. What the hell is wrong with his "people?"

I think now they are called "tactical" pens. Go for about $50.

Yeah.
That "Russian Pencil" story is bullshit. The US used pencils in all space missions up until 1968. Broken lead from pencils (and shavings from sharpening) can be dangerous in a zero gravity environment. They can float into an eye, nose, or cause electrical shorts. Also, the wood and graphite burn rapidly in an oxygen-rich environment like you have on space vehicles. That pen was developed to avoid these problems, not because they couldn't think of an alternative. Also, the US gov't didn't pay a single dime for the development of the "Space Pen". It was all privately developed by the inventor. He sold them to NASA for US$2.95, each. Hardly expensive in comparison to other items in NASA's budget. (Which totally negates 75% of the reasons people pull out the "Russian Pencil" bullshit story.) Additionally, the Soviets started using the Space Pens shortly after they were developed for the same reasons NASA did. So the next time some smug dickass uses the "Well, the Russians used a pencil" maneuver, counter with, "So did we."

Who cares? The story is meant to be allegorical, dipshit. Relax, nobody's going to take your pen away.

As a lefty I could care less if they write upside down as long as they don't smear. So these days I am a big fan of Pentel EnerGel pens. I do so love being able to bleed on the work my minions produce without painting my hand red.
