Actually, it's a longevity experiment i do: for xmas 2011 i went on German Amazon and got one of these Krinner tree stands i'd read about:  Mine holds 3+ liters of agua, and resident Chucklehead botanist Perz told me to add Sprite o the water to help feed it some (i used Ginger Ale this year just to defy Perz). The tree in 2011 lasted til late Feb 2012, and it looks like this year's will be similar. It's just now starting to drop needles, and i've had it set up since early December  The design is typically over-done German chuckleheadry (clever, too) and the thing actually works amazingly at making set-up a snap and keeping the tree fresh for months. All of this appeals to my inner/outer Chucklehead. YMMV

 it prolly would have lasted several years... or died within a few days... ymmv
