You could drop down a bit on your way across ontario and slide through Algonquin Park.

I know it was mentioned earlier, but if you have the time I highly recommend taking the ferry to Madeline Island. Really a beautiful place.

If you're interested I did a short report on it here: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=789828 Just scroll down a little ways.

Best of luck on your trip.

I have some suggestions for the portion between Thunder Bay and the US border. Rather than cruise down highway 61 along with every other tourist and traveler, follow something like this: http://goo.gl/maps/cwpAE

Also, go see Kakabeka Falls west of Thunder Bay.

Be sure to eat at the Madhouse in Thunder Bay. Go in and ask for Feliz and tell him you're from ADVrider.

It might take me a bit of searching through my notes to find the coordinates, but this waterfall is hidden off highway 17 on the north side of Lake Superior, if you're into waterfalls.

Oh, and I almost forgot. Stop at the Pigeon River Provincial Park, right before you cross into the US. They have some short hiking trails, one of them leads back to the High Falls of the Pigeon River. It's very impressive and you'll be the only one there.

Grand Portage National Monument on the US side is pretty neat too, if you like history.

Thanks Jamie .. great addition to the route. I figure on stopping in several parks here and there - depending on the appetite of the flies. I love the suggestions - and with all these added places to eat I might have to buy some bigger pants before my trip

I appreciate what Jamie is saying about getting off the highway and into the woods a bit. But coming down Highway 61 is in fact pretty flippin' cool. Grand Marais, Temperance River, the shoreline cliffs of Shovel Point and Palisade Head, Gooseberry Falls, et cet... all lie along the shore. Very cool stuff. And remember the offer of the spare bedroom and an oil change in the garage. You'll have a pretty kick-ass time on this trip methinks.

Indeed I should have read more closely. Musta been just before coffee time for me.
I just glanced over it and thought you were suggesting for further south. Usually I'm a little more observant. I've enjoyed your RR's by the way.

Okay I've got some links here for you to look at. Sorry if it's too much but I'm planning to go back to the UP for a third time. Also I'm from MN so I've been to the Lake Superior shore more times than I can remember, so I've seen many of the places I've linked to. It's just lots of stuff to see, no places to eat or stay are linked. Hope it helps your long winter planning night.

Now I have even more time to plan... the boss says no to extended vaca in June and July

Looks like August it is, less bugs so thats a plus. Guess I'll do W.Va this June instead. These are good problems to have
