KLR electrical gremlins thwarted

I had a interesting problem with the KLR at the very end of the riding season. It would start fine when cold but would not spark when warm. I tried a different CDI box first because I have a spare on hand and it's a easy swap but it made no difference. Next was a different coil, same scenario. The only thing left was in the system was the pulsar pick up coil but I did not have one of those on hand. I was able to score one on flea bay last month and got it installed the other day. It lit up quicker than I've seen it run in the past. I'm betting by the good first impression that it took care of the problem. I'll take it out for a shake down ride this spring and see how it starts consistently when ridden up to temperature. I imagine there is a test with a ohm meter for the coil but hard to duplicate the the temp conditions at which it seems to fail. Anyhow, just want to share the situation in case a fellow inmate might have the same symptoms.

Impatiently waiting for spring

Thats interesting.I have not heard of that issue, thanks for the heads up and let us know if that fixes it.
What year Klr ? And how many miles ?
You are talking about the pickup behind the stator cover, correct ?

Klr

It's a 2002 with about 38K. Yes, it is the pick up coil behind the stator cover. Not a terrible hard repair. My KLR was due for a oil change anyhow which made things a touch easier. There are a couple of screws installed with loctite that needed to be heated. I used a impact driver on them after I brought it up to temp. Just the cost of the gasket. 2HE
