NOrth America they are used for going to Starbucks! and also mainly for recreation, for weekend fun!! YEs there are some people that will put 10-20,000 miles on a bike in 1 year, but they are not the norm.

In Asia (I have been there twice, India and Indonesia) BIG motorcycles are 250cc and the rest are 50-125 cc and they are abuse to carry as much as possible, people, animals, goods and everything you can strap to the bike, no safety issues to deal with, no mandatory speeds !

I am very interested in a Tornado for my next trip to SA. The police in Sonora use the Tornado and one of them let me sit on the bike, I have a problem with the seat hieght. Can any of you owners tell if the suspension can be lowered via links? The new CRF250L now has a Kouba link which lowers the bike 1 3/4" which would be good for me. Do you think this suspension link is the same as on the Tornado?

it only takes about 15 minutes to lower and will lower the seat height almost 2 inches or 5 centimeters. there is a second mounting hole on the rear shock and just slide the forks up to balance. my friend rented a Tornado and they lowered it for him when he arrived. A very easy and quick process.

yeah what Jimmy said, when I sold my Tornado to my suegro he had it lower like 5 cm because he did not feel comfortable on the bike, it was too tall for him, so easily the job was done, front and back lowering to keep it balance.

Then you will have to cut the side stand just to prevent it from having and up right bike all the time.

Hi there..

Another fellow Argentinean posting.. I was surprised to see a Tornado thread, so I decided to chime in.


I've never owned one, but I've done about 5000km on at that moment, brand new Tornado. I have a friend in Villa la Angostura (Patagonia) that bought 3 (I think it was 2004) to rent them to tourists.

They had to be properly broken in before they can be rented, so he invited me and a friend to do some kms on them.

They where really fun to ride bikes.. very light and dependable, low gas consumption.

On the cons side, they lack the grunt that old XR250 (92-93 and so) had. 1st gear is a must climbing a steep hill or it will die on you.

The seat height seems more like 36"...maybe close to 34.6" when I sit on it and I weigh around 155 lbs.
As mentioned before...this bike can be lowered easily about 2" without needing a thing. Just lower the shock (there is a 2nd mounting hole) and slide the forks up a bit to balance.

it sounds correct to me, I remeber it was lower than the KLR 650 seat, and that is listed at 35 in. and course the suspention is a little softer than the klr so it will go down a little more does making the floor a lot closer. I had both bikes at the same time in 2007
