People in the countryside are very friendly and helpful to foreigners. You just have to watch out for opportunistic people in the more densely populated areas. Generally speaking, Kenya must be one of the safest countries in Africa to ride through.
Main stream media likes portraying a different picture but the reality is the complete opposite. |

For anyone looking to add some cheap and useful bling to your XR, add some Cree projectors like I did!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQh2HDLKB-Q They are maybe a bit brighter than the stock headlight with stock bulb, and they hardly draw any power. Don't expect to race the Baja 1000 with only these though For low-speed use they are a great way to conserve battery power if you're running a stock alternator with an uber main headlight like my setup.

I am blessed! I purchased it for about $600 a couple years ago. It didn't run but I didn't care because a plated frame alone is a good find!

XR250R with CRF steering damper..
![]() Thought I would post a picture of how I fittted a CRF damper to my 1996 XR250R in case anyone is thinking of doing the same. I am using a Renthal top clamp but I guess it would be just as easy to use a standard Honda one. USD conversion obviously.. Hope you like.. And the finished article..

1997 xr250r
I picked up this 1997 model in January 2013. The pictures show the condition it was in as purchased. Still has original tires, no wear on chain guides. The bike probably has less than 300 miles on it.

Just got my title in the mail
So my little 1986 XR250R project has come to the end. I'll be getting it inspected in the morning and then its good to go. It went from a rusted lump to and almost showroom condition toy.
When I found it the guy who owned it wouldn't sell. He planned to fix it up. Then a little over a year later I saw that it was in the exact same place as before. There was a mud line about halfway up the engine cases from a flood in his back yard and there were weeds growing through the spokes. Now I insisted, begged and cajoled him into selling it to me for $300. That may seem like alot for the condition, but it had a plate on it. So 2 yrs later, and a bunch of spare time spent on it, and its done. I started by stripping it bare. A friend sandblasted, primed and painted the frame for me. Every wheel bearing, linkage bearing, bushing and wear part was replaced. I rebuilt the forks with new bushings, seals and springs. Same for the rear shock. New tires, tubes and rim strips. Rebuilt the front brake master and caliper. New rear brake shoes. New chain and sprockets. Painted all the plastics with Krylon Fusion paint. Recover the seat and a new tool bag. Finally I had to wire up a horn, turn signals, brake light, running light and a plate light. Now I have to set up a hosting place to show my pics from. What a pita. gt_pedaler screwed with this post 03-02-2013 at 06:41 PM |
