heated Grips Switch Mounting to GS

Hi All,

Bought a switch for my bike (R80 GS Basic 1996) to connect heated grips.

Switch and heated grips are BMW made.

The problem is there is no place to mount the switch on the dashboard.
I have to mount the switch on the handlebar.
When we look at the handlebar, it is barely seen that I need a bracket or similar thing to mount/connect this switch.

Could Anybody help me with this bracket thing ?

But i'm not sure it fits on the GS. Its made for the F650

That's the switch that drops into the dash of the 1990-on GSPD version. There is another BMW switch for the non-PD that is integrated into a handlebar mount. That nacelle is very cramped as you have noticed. I managed to fit a toggle switch into mine in about the only spot it would fit. Problem is that the location sucks and it is very hard to use with gloves.

If you lost one of the warning lights could that be the right size for the switch?

Otherwise symtec make a very neat round 3 way rocker switch. On my 90/6 it has been squeezed in between the main binnacle and the LH instrument pod (the same that you have). It's fairly neat but a bit ark ward to use with heavy gloves.

The Symtec heated grip pads seem to work very well and put out a good amount of heat. Easy enough to fit and reliable to date.

That's a very neat tacho, is that a BMW part?

yes it is an original BMW part

Samy, in that picture the BMW heated grip switch is already mounted on the bars:



this is the factory heated grip switch for all round-headlight G/S and GS (85?-up)


It is Item # 2 in the fiche for the retrofit kit:


part # 61 31 1 244 494

The flat rocker connector you have is for the roo-bar fairing GS's, both GS-PD models and the 100GS with the same fairing dashboard. I think that switch also fits 11xxGS (looks identical)

I like the solution that Prutser shows with that F650 mini-panel between the bar risers


The Symtec kits are very good quality, but if you ride in rain/mud/sand/dust very much the switches crap out quickly as they are not sealed

Here are all the parts you need. I assume that you have the grips and what looks to be the correct switch but what you might be missing is the harness for the grips(part #3 in the diagram above). I took a picture of all the parts you need and the numbers correspond to the part numbers in the diagram:



Part 3(the grip harness) is from a R100GS here is a picture of the part tag:
