No you don't need to. Take the bar ends/outer pieces of the hand guards off and get a standard crescent wrench. The threaded inserts have two flat sides on the very outside edge so you can screw them out.

Before buying the bike I looked at all the different crash bars available and for me it was a toss up between the SW Motech and Altriders. When I picked up the bike from a dealer 3hrs from home there just happened to be a guy a few suburbs away from the dealer who had all the Altrider gear in stock, so that's what I went with. The Altrider bars, although pricey, seemed really solid in their construction and the way they mounted, and turned out to be easy to fit. They seem to offer similar protection to the SW Motech bars if your tiger decides to have a lie down for a while. Having said that, there is no reason I wouldn't have bought the SW Motech's apart from the inconvenience of having to order them from a supplier on the other side of the country. There are a couple of guys over here currently riding their tigers around OZ that swear by them. Cheers, John |

You better buy a new shift lever ahead of time with this set up... I destroyed mine when I went down in some grass. I carry two! ![]()

oh i bent it back, i had to get home somehow. rode it "fixed" for a few weeks. much more bending though and I'm afraid she would snap. its not so much the steel but the lever from the motor... that area isn't as thick as the rest... the one in the pic is now my back up.

You didn't take the necessary precautions. A simple "Brake Snake" may have prevented your lever from bending double.
![]() And/or buy a Touratech folding lever which is thicker to start with.

Bingo!!
But....the reason I do mine like I do is that it helps prevent branches going in and getting wedged behind the lever. I learnt that the hard way. It sent me over the bars.

Well now know I will need to brake snake the T800 when I get it. Should probably hook up the Girlie now. I went through three gear shift levers on my XR before I wised up and safety wired the shifter and brake pedal.

hey guys, here's a noob question.
I like/want to change for the folding Touratech shift lever. Is it as easy as bolt off/on? Thanks, Dave. |
