Colorado to Copper Canyon, Mochis, La Paz
Solo KLR 650. Unscheduled just yet but heading from Colorado probably cross at Ciudad Juarez and pickup Copper Canyon on way to Los Mochis to La Paz...relax a bit. Might ride lower BCS to Santa Rosalia and return via Guaymas?
I've ridden Baja top to bottom and back before...speak Spanish-lite. Camp and/or out of the way hotels. Thoughts? Any tips or advice on Copper Canyon? Thanks |

You're better off crossing at Palomas

I'm never sure which of the crossings is better, safer, full-service, etc. Like near Tijuanna, I go through Tecate. It's too far west this run, so I'm pimping my fellow inmates for motobeta. Thanks.

Cross at Santa Teresa but don't take HW 45 all the way south to Chihuahua. That highway sucks on a KLR! Cut west at Villa Miguel Ahumada and take country roads 19 and 27, and 5 down through the Mennonite country to Cuauhtemoc. This route is a much nicer alternative to the highway.
I was in Louisville last Thursday. I have family there! |

Thanks, SR. Every highway sucks on a KLR. The only time I really prefer the KLR is when I'm picking it up off the ground after a dirt nap--inexpensive to drop and lighter to lift.
Next time you're in the neighborhood, send me a message. I'll meet you for a beer or coffee. |

+1 for crossing at Palamos. Louisville? I live in Boulder and have some mighty fine maps and such for CC that I'd be willing to share. Been there a bunch and might be heading back sooner than later!

When are you planning on heading to Copper Canyon. I'm in Guate now and hope to come back to Colorado with that in mind.
Boulder Guy, any info would be helpful also. Long time resident of northern Colorado. Not trying to steel the post, but just interested... |
