Boulder local Loctite 272?
Anyone know where to source Loctite Red 272 around the Boulder area? The Hinson guys were clear the normal Red 271 stuff doesn't have the right hi-temp rating for securing the primary gear to a new clutch basket. So far I've tried Home Depot, Ace and McGuckins.
If I can't find it I'm probably going to use the 271 and just peen the screw ends. |

Maybe a car parts shop like Napa or Car Quest?

Unfortunately nope.. and the guy at Napa was arguing that "red is red".. there couldn't possibly be a difference.
![]() Fortunately McGuckins does carry the high-temp high-strength Permanex; and from reading both TDS' side-by-side, they seem exactly equivalent. EDIT - also struck out with Fastenal |

I have 262 among other things, but no 272, McMaster Carr has it.

I found that Grainger Boulder doesn't stock it, but can get it up from Denver in a day.
Hey now.. don't laugh. I just left the Hinson tech support guy a vm question about that this morning. It's supposed to be a permanent connection anyway, so why not? The OEM basket is riveted on. You have the grind off the flanges to get the primary gear free to begin with. So JB welding the bolts on the replacement would just mean I'd have to drill off the heads if I ever had to change it again. I would hope I'm not stupid enough to do this again anyway:

Those grooves make it look like a new clutch basket won't hurt anyway. I've used normal red loctite on the Hinson basket on my old RM265, everything else rattled off the insides of that POS but the clutch basket bolts stayed put.

yeah.. I had already filed it smooth at the beginning of last season, so it was probably time for it to go anyway. Be interested to see how the Hinson holds up in comparison.
