These are just a few guesses.

250 kids riding 450's while their coast is on break. Why?
To gauge where they are at in the big boy class.
To secure a ride for the big boy class.
To gain more sponsorship to fund their foray into the big boy class.
To better their chances at making a living since they went all in on this moto sport thing and don’t have anything to fall back on.

Dowd and Brownie ride a few select 450 outdoors. Why?
To keep their race number out of circulation.
To show their kids that they can race
(seems a little more selfish than Tomac no?)

Like others have stated, riders used to run all the classes in the same night. Tomac is going up in class so you can't call it cherry picking.

It is Milsaps home race. He should win, but it will be tough to beat Poto if he is on form like last week.

I respect your point of view and from an Eddie Lawson point of view "Lappers shouldn't even be out there" (not sure how that would work since he'd be the only one out there). But regardless, in the big picture this is about ratings, it's not a race it's a SX Show! Mixing things up is a way that they keep the interest going....more audience, the better chance that we'll still see the race on TV. They don't care who wins, or who screws up who in the turns and messes up the points. From a rating stand point, the more pileups, tipovers and drama, the better!...it's all ratings. I race Hare Scrambles and would love to see the GNCC or Endurocross on nationwide TV but the ratings aren't there. So without people like Tomac coming in and mixing things up, there's no one interested, say the few exceptions that are die hard fans, watching and if not enough people are watching, the TV networks aren't going to pick up the races and you'll be watching from either the stands or reruns on the internet. So you can complain all you want, free speech, but it's as simple as that! I'm rooting for Tomac to throw a wrench into the whole thing He'll probably get 4th!

Having Eli in the 450's will be a show,Supercross is a show and he will put butts in seats. He may "take" points away from championship contenders but so might James Stewart,James is pretty much out of the points yet he might still win if he can finish a main event.
I like the way Eli rides,full on flat out nails it all the time and has great style on corners or jumps. Much like his dad did on Mt bikes.

Yup, I agree. I was kind of on the fence about whether they should let a 250 rider join the 450s halfway through the season or not. Even if Tomac (or any other rider) screws things up for the championship contenders making a rule against that seems like it would be way to complicated to be worth wasting your time making it.

If you can qualify, you can race... as simple as that. Besides Tomac isn't any more likely to take out a top rider than anyone else who lines up on the gate. If Tomac doesn't screw things up than Reed will in turn two anyway .

I agree also, whether it's in the stadium or on TV, it's still about getting the fans in to spend more money. It will never be as bad as F1 unless they start travelling the world with the SX Show and it catches on.

But like you said...if you can qualify, you can race and that chance that a wildcard might get in and mix things up, will draw crowds. It's not all about the 5 points leaders racing for the champoinship, it's more...it's entertainment

So would you also be against one of the World MX racers coming over to do the first couple races, as they have done in the past? Certainly Everts (in his day) or Cairoli could run at the front. What about if it was toward the end of the series instead of the first couple races, would that be different?

This!This is NOT the OUTDOORS,and anyone that even COMPARES the two is clueless.This is about the SHOT and very little or no PASSING.How many times has the 3rd- 5th place guy set the ouickest times?Outdoors there is MUCH more room to race and lots of time to rebound if you fuck up.2 MOTOS worth.
