You can't pick and choose who is or isn't allowed to race because the AMA already did. If you have pro-class license and qualify then even YOU should be allowed to race.

I agree the "lights" class is broken,always has been.
When it's cheaper to run a 450 than a 250 something needs to be done.
Also East/West has always been abused.
Again,good intentions to keep traveling expenses down but abused by all the top teams for years.

Disallowing a racer from competing in a class he can legally participate in though is just wrong.

Yup,Ryan V's dad told us on a dualsport ride in nor cal that 2 hours was about the limit for a hard ridden 250 in pro level Supercross,the cases can crack,the crank is shot,the whole engine comes apart and a new one is slotted in. Fine for a Pro-Circuit bike or other top contender.
How does a mid packer pay for that stuff? It's damn pricey to build a fast 250 these days.

The "pointing out" thing is an AMA creation,the 250 class is more competitive if anything then the 450 class.

I never said to single anyone out, Tomac by his move to the 450's comes under the spotlight and becomes the point of debate. the series is supposedly set up as a "junior series" (Lites) to allow "beginner" pro's the chance to ride on the big stage without taxing their resources to much by making them try to get to all 16 events

And, allowing them to bump up a class while on break to see if they are ready for the big class. At the same time giving the fans a treat to see how your favorite 250 guy does in the 450 class.

There is no TEAM racing mentality in this sport anymore. Did you not see the pass Brayton put on Grant, in a heat race no less.

Personally I like the way SX works. The day seems to flow really well, at least at the live events that I've been to (and its well put together on TV). Which is good for us cause it means more coverage.

The track should be really good this weekend.

The only limit I know of there is that you can only win the Championship twice, then you have to leave.
I know you mentioned Tomac, but this has been happening for years. Last year Barcia rode some.

I'm not saying he's cherry picking the 450's I'm saying in an abstract way he is cherry picking the 250's, though I don't fault him.

the way the sport is set up they've inadvertantly created cherry picking in the 250 class and equipment does play a role. 250 regional SX titles are not regarded with the same prestige as 450 titles are. Barcia is a good example. He's been training for years for his pro career and he was obviously ready. But his 2 titles are now just after thoughts now that he has "moved up". It wasn't broke and they fixed it and ruined potential all time careers. Clearly superior riders like Roczen and Tomac riding the 250's the way things are now is akin to a guy with enough points in C class not moving up to B and dominating the C's for as long as he can. Or B's who should be up with the A's. It's not Tomacs fault but if Barcia and RV were still riding 250's maybe Tomac and Roczen aren't in the conversation.

Well lap times have a lot to do with it but there is no replacing the experience of riding a 450 with the best riders in the world. NOTHING can replace actually racing with other riders in a main event. If you have ever ridden both bikes they are vastly different in the way that you ride them, the power of a 450 needs to be respected on an AX or SX track.

I'm making my 3rd trip to the Georgia dome to see the fastest supercross racers in the world and if Eli Tomac is in the main, then he is one of the fastest on that night and thats why I pay my money.

250 titles aren't taken as seriously as 450 titles because they are easier to win with only half the rounds. And who do you think was going to have a potential all time career WITHOUT winning in the 450's? In the old days, guys like Hannah, Barnett and O'mara were 125 specialists who rode those bikes better than all the others but they all also won on the 250's and big bikes as well. That is why they have all time careers.

As far as C'S, B's and A's not wanting to move up, this is how it has ALWAYS BEEN. That's why organizers like the AMA force them to move up after they have earned a certain number of points or podiums or wins. Just like in the pros.

They should boot PC and Geico out of the 250 class.
