I am sure this question has been anwsered already so my appologies for a repeat. How important is a GPS for this rally? I am deciding if I should or not mount it?

You can totally get by without one. None of the rally info pertains to anything on a GPS. with a watch and the small roll chart, you are fully prepared to navigate

I dont have a reliable odo or speedo on my bike, though, so I use one for that, and I waypoint the starts, so that if my rollchart gets fuct up I can still find the next spot

I'm not sure if that would help or not. It may grab the attention of non-racers browsing this forum....i guess the worse they could do is delete it or merge it...

Sorry if this is a noob questions, but can you elaborate on waypointing the starts? By next spot do you mean the finish of the following stage?

Sometimes we run the same stage more than once. Its covenient for me to have the start of each stage waypointed, so that I can just do a GoTo if I get lost. I find it helpful to have the service waypointed as well.

Thankfully, Anders has thoughtfully incorporated the shortest distances already, so my GPS and the route sheets really havent conflicted at all. Just once on the way to the finish from the last stage. It was inthe dark, and my rollchart wasnt lit. I used th GPS to get me to hte finish line...

But here's the rub- It wasnt by the route sheet route, and my battery died. I ended up pushing hte bike the last half mile or so. Saw no other bikes becuase I wasnt on the route.

So its got its advantages and disadvantages.

Ara: If your not use to using a GPS, it's not a good idea to try learn how to use one at the Rally. There's too many other things to worry about.

Usually you can find another rider or two starting near you, and you ride together to the next stage or service.

I haven't found a GPS to be helpful. It's just one more thing to screw me up.

I like sticking with the roadbook and just focusing on that.

Jack...I wouldn't use the GPS as a route guide, but rather in case I have to bail out and get back to the service area. Maybe I'll just pack it in my backpack just in case.

to get my rear blinkers working, I ended up needing to re-wire the fronts. Started this AM at about 1030... not done with rear blinkers yet

But I did get the trailer lights working, so, perpetually forward

I swapped out my rear turn signal lights on Friday, Jason. It took about 30-45 minutes.

Sort yourself out, man! ;~)
