Attack on Alberta riding areas?
http://www.avaaz.org/en/petition/Pre...berta/?kKMIjeb
South Saskatchewan refers to the river, not the province. https://www.landuse.alberta.ca/LandU...%202011-03.pdf 70 pages of vague motherhood statements. And this: 6.4.4.10 Unmanaged recreation activities that do not demonstrate stewardship and respect for the natural environment, other values and land uses should not be permitted on public lands. *Motorized recreation, including rallies and races, should not be permitted on public lands unless authorized on designated trails, routes or areas; *Motorized activities should not be permitted in riparian areas or wetlands, and mud bogging should be prohibited on public lands; and *Unmanaged camping should not be permitted on public lands unless authorized in designated areas.

It's coming. :(
I know a bit about this and am considering an 'idea' to help mitigate this. Any investors in the house? |

STOP it before it gets goes any further
This issue of closing public lands to a segment of the population must be stopped.
Please check out this online petition regardless of wether you ride in Southern Alberta or not... read it, sign it. http://www.avaaz.org/en/petition/Pre...berta/?kKMIjeb This is happening today in Southern Alberta and we must put up a fight to help prevent the closures from spreading to the rest of the province. As mentioned, the closures affect more than just off-road vehicles (2 wheel/4 wheel), it also restricts random camping, hunting, fishing, exploring, etc. There are land misuse/abuse issues in certain areas that I do not condone, but closing 99.5% of the land to motorized/camping/hunting/fishing access is not the solution. Please pass this on to anyone you know that enjoys riding and camping in the backcountry. Regardless of where they live or play... they may want to enjoy the wilds of Alberta someday... let's try to keep that option open to everyone! |

I suspect that this will quietly go ahead behind closed doors regardless of how much our small community signs petitions, and I already have (when I first heard of this). After all, it is stylish to stand up and complain about the destruction of pristine wilderness and how campers and atvs are destroying it all. It makes for good news footage. The government that we elected , especially our premier (she's a lawyer after all), are masters at talking out of both sides of their faces. They sign off on clear-cutting huge areas of McLean Creek, while entertaining a piece of legislation such as this.
But like any legislation or law, putting it on the books is one thing, enforcing it is very much another. If this goes ahead they will simply make outlaws of a small segment of the taxpayers, in favor of another. Close the racetracks, close the forests, and watch the carnage on the roads. Friday night "streets" will take on new meaning. People of all ages need an outlet, and by closing all the ares that are now used in a (mostly) responsible manner is a really short sighted approach. The government is famous for that. Redford has budgeted 5 million of our money so that she can have a good year of travel though. She remembered to take care of the one person she cares about.
