Cold water geysers of Utah

Many of you have probably been to Crystal Geyser near Green River. I've never seen it erupt except in a video.
That video led to a link of more Green River area cold water geysers but no locations.
Over a few beers one night I piece together the puzzle to find more of them.
Back in late June of 2008 I had left a camping rally in Ouray CO to locate some of the other geysers. It was late in the day so I found a spot for the camper at Green River SP and hopped on the bike. My first destination was Chaffin Ranch
Geyser. I arrived to find a tufa terrace and a small pipe with water trickling out of the ground.

It looked like it may have erupted recently so I waited for probably a half hour. I was just about to give up when I noticed the water flow coming out of the pipe had increased. Not long after it looked like this.

and quickly increased to this.

The eruption lasted for a little while. Back in '08 there wasn't much info online about it. There are articles on cold water geysers that explain them much better than I can. They are a man made geyser as the result of drilling a well. The water is ground water cold. I headed back to camp. The next morning I headed southeast of Green River to find a couple more. This is Psuedo Ten Mile Geyser.

I doubt that it erupts much. Not far away is Ten Mile Geyser. That's an oil drilling rig in the background.

A different angle of Ten Mile Geyser

I'm not sure of the eruption frequency but the biting flies drove me away.

The last one I hiked to but later found out if you follow the atv tracks in the dry wash it will take you to Bubble Spring. The tracks were heading in the wrong direction so I didn't think they would end up where I was going. The camera case is about as long as a soda can for scale.

Close up of the bubbles.

There is another CW geyser over near Chaffin but it was late in the day and the sandy trail did not look inviting. I had also gone 20 miles and not seen a soul so erred on the side of caution.

Very interesting. Had no idea of such geysers.
Thanks for sharing.

Hopefully its not natural gas pushing the water out, want to make sure you park up wind of these things or you could ignite the gas. If they're drilling for oil around the area there's a good chance there will be gas in that water table below.

Hopefully you smoke either...

Zoro, these are driven by carbon dioxide. Search Crystal Geyser on wiki for a better explanation of these.
