43mm Fork Seal Driver for '13 F800GS

Hey all,

As some of you may know, I hit a deer on my 2013 F800GS a week after I bought it in September. Well she is pretty much all finished up and ready to ride except for 1 fork seal. The caliper bracket on the left side fork leg got a little scraped so they had to replace the whole leg.

Basically they have been waiting on getting the tool from BMW for a while now, and they aren't letting any go for whatever reason. I am wondering if something like This would work just as well, and if anyone has experience using this sort of driver. If it is pretty much what they are waiting on I will probably just purchase the tool and let them use it. Probably not a bad idea to have one laying around, and I am not one to regret purchasing tools that are seldom used. Thanks!

Almost anything that's 43mm size will work. That Motion Pro driver should work perfectly. Some people use a piece of PVC pipe that is close in diameter.. I reused my old fork seal.. worked great. Just becareful to not scratch the fork tube when removing the fork seal.

I would use this method if it was me doing the install, but I don't think the dealer will go for it.

That's exactly what I used when I replaced my fork seals, just in the 45mm size for my Marzocchis. Worked like a charm.

They are still trying to tell me they need the BMW tool! My bike has almost been there for 6 months now!

You could save a few bucks and get a Motion Pro knockoff at Cycle Gear for about 1/2 the price.

Are you freaking kidding? go get the forks, bring them over to my house and i'll put the seals on, free of charge, will take all of 10 minutes.

(Remember why I didn't buy my bike up there?)

I would f it wasn't being fixed under insurance. This is the first time I have ever been disappointed with them. They are always really good about my service. I guess with the winter storm outside I won't be riding any time soon anyways.

An extra BMW tool or the universal one?

There is not any difference between the BMW tool and the mass produced after markets availible. Any 43mm seal driver will work correctly. Most BMW shops say the OEM seals are taller than the aftermarket seals availible, and they are but the .05mm difference doesn't matter in any way whatsoever.
Fact is and seal driver will do the job unless they are speaking of the cartridge rod seal tool, which I have in stock as well and can loan out if needed to get you down the road.

Thanks for your help. They are referring to the main fork seal. I went and talked to them today so we will see if that speeds things up a bit.
