Can be the end of the grinding for me? My motorcycle is 745 miles
Or the cold of the winter? The temperatures are always cold

For the dealer BMW it is normal, but my "old" F800GS consumed similar ... but with more HP !: Huh

Have you taken the LHS fairing off to look at all? There seems to be some air aimed at the oil tank, and maybe a tank pannier would block the exit of that?

No idea what effect that might have depending on the air temp etc?

I haven't. That's good to know. Maybe I can figure out a way to mount them without covering the vents, or else I'll probably skip out on them and try something else. Thanks for the reply, grizzlyj.

I have a 2007 f650gs and have 1000's and 1000's of miles with the aerostich tank panniers attached. They carry a lot of camping supplies. They in no way have affected the cooling of the bike through the side panel vents.

They are nice in the cold for protecting my knees.

what do you mean where I got my information?
55kmi on the Dakar should be enough to know what mileage I got on average
and my still new to me Sertao in the few tanks of gas so far did get around 50mpg, between 48 and 52 to be precise
and I am absolutely sure my riding style did not change
if at all in cold, wet weather I am a little more cautious onthe throttle

I meant exactly what I said, I was unsure where you got your information. It wasn't meant to be insulting. Don't get your knickers in a twist. I don't know how it's possible that your bike runs through that much more fuel than mine. I'm not easy on the throttle and I still run 10mpg higher than you on average.

Would mpg varying have anything to do with where these different folks are?

50 miles per USA gallon is not the same as 50 miles per UK, and the Sertao mpg figures I always assumed were UK ones?

I am thinking of getting the Ohlins shock but it is allot of cash to throw down all at once. Will the Ohlins be of any significant improvement in ride if it's just dirt roads and paved back roads?

your idea is right

but CO and GA - to my knowledge - both use US liquid gallons = 3.79L
not imperial gallons = 4.55L

Howdy all,
I'm making a decision soon on a new bike. Its either a late model Dakar (if i can find one) or the new Sertao.
What seems to be the general consensus? Are owners happy with them. Any major issues? Sorry I have been reading the threads but it's gonna take me ages to read through them all.
They get good reviews over here in Oz.

No no no! Thats just even more complicated :)

Miles per British gallon is what you should stick too! After all, you're all happy enough with english it would appear ;)

I found that the Sertao's fuel mileage varied with the temperature. In the summer, I averaged between 3.2 and 3.6 litres per 100kms. In the late fall, it was 3.6 to 4.1 litres per 100kms.

Altogether, I averaged 3.7 for the year. That's pretty good in my books. I must add that I'm pretty easy on the throttle and keep my speeds to less than 120kph.

Hey Guys, I brought a Kaoko throttle lock sometime ago from another ADV Sertao owner(Avner) before he moved on to a f800. I never installed it as it doesn't work w/ my current bark busters, Dakar version. I had to buy another one that is a wee bit smaller and fits w/ the my current setup.

Hope Avner doesn't mind but I put a link to his mod page: Scroll down a few pages and you'll see it there. I can take pictures, but Like I said never installed.
