Why put tractor stuff on your bike? You can buy this motorcycle specific unit for 3x the price. Comes with a decal so no acetone required! Even a drill bit and screws for a complete DIY setup.

I had a prototype of that, but tire life was affected,
so I'm moving to a twin-generator design that uses the part of the sidewalls that I don't ....

but now that I think about it ...
Maybe a tow-behind generator pod would be better though...
Paint it up to look like a pac-man ... give it a nice old-school flavor...

That's really nice! You should have made a few extra of those brackets to sell

I'm doing the Lars mount with a MegaTube this weekend. I'll take some photos and share what I find. It looks like that rear mount doesn't even pass between the tank and the fender, but just goes through a hole in between the bodywork and the fender behind the tanks. I'm considering a backing plate for the tube, just to strenghten things up, but might not bother. Should be sweet, thanks for the photos!

I really like the setup!
It looks like it would just barely clear the tire when the rear suspension is compressed - how much clearance is there?

Mortar Tubes

The plastic tubes that they ship mortars in are pretty good for this. I used one for my cross country trip last year and just used two giant hose clamps to attach it vertically to my SW Motech crashbars. It held my chain lube, rags, large tire irons and a spare rear tube with no problem. I liked the Mad Max look. Changed computers so I can't find any pics right now.

I didn't thnk my setup would last very well in the dirt though so I have to find a way to mount it on the rear of the bike.

I've seen folks on the V-Strom forum make tool tubes very inexpensively from PVC pipe.

My problem is that I have the Vario bags, so I don't have a nice sturdy rack to put it behind.

I made decent progress today, but ran out of time. I'll make a detailed write up with some templates etc when I'm not half drunk and supposed to be asleep. Turns out the tool tube guy lives across town, so I rode over and picked up a MegaTube after work yesterday. I bought a bit of bar stock and some fresh drill bits today, and got busy.

That last photo is a test fit holding the tube in place with some gorilla tape to see if it will clear the Giant Loop bag. It fits perfectly. I had to lay off for the night because my girls are asleep. Drilling and pounding gets me in trouble with the old lady.
