I think you guys are wrong in saying that these guys are riding conservatively. There is nothing conservative about it and they are probably riding at 95+% all the time. They are just so smooth that they can absolutely fly without looking out of control. We can't comprehend their skill and smoothness, so it's pointless to speculate here.
Just watch the start of the main. JS and RV (and everyone else) were each going all out and RV almost got punted off the track in the first turn. If that's conservative, then I am

Podiums are all that James has left at this point. I agree the riders are riding at 95% this year. Last year they where riding at 110% and look how that ended.

A lot of the comments you guys are making is why I enjoy the outdoors series more than Supercross. They is a lot less holding back outdoors. If your faster, you can pass everywhere. Watching riders hang it out outdoors is pure speed vs terrain. Just so many more line options.
To go quick on a Supercross track you need to go faster than the next guy in short bursts. The course is limiting when this can happen. Its so much about timing and precision

+1. That's why Alessi and Bagget do so good in MX but not SX. It takes so much more throttle control in SX and AX. MX its just pin it to win it and whoever is the fastest with the most stamina wins.
SX is all about starts and not crashing or even bobbles, its literally racing for 10ths of seconds now.

I wonder has the math been done? meaning if Stewart wins out assuming #1, #18, #5 keep making the podium for the most part, I'd be curious to know should Stewart be stellar for the rest of the year how far up the standings he can get.

He is not mathematically out, but the top six would all need to have a couple no-score rounds for him to get close.

should Stewart go on a tear I don't think he has to worry about catching anyone but the present top 3. I like Canard as much as the next guy but I don't see him setting the world on fire at this point we've seen 8 races and he doesn't seem to have what he needs to start making podiums especially if Stewart starts standing on them routinely.

If you know you are out matched at a particular race, settleing for second is the smart thing to do. There was no need in pushing harder to pass Stewart if he's not in the championship hunt. RV left Atlanta with a couple more points than DM and in one piece ready to fight another day. This is how championships are won.

the way I see it if Stewart won at Dallas he might be in 5th.

Nothing. Just a look at the racer attitude after a few years at that level. I think probably a to some extent a shared attitude.
