BBC Dakar documentary

I came across a very interesting Dakar documentary that was done by the BBC, thought I would pass it along.

Awesome! Tried watching on the BBC iPlayer but it only allowed UK access.

Some very cool information there, thanks for posting. The most interesting thing about it (to me) is the contrast between the spirit of the original idea compared to the current status. I.e. - adventurers coming together to enjoy a ride and a country, compared to todays high dollar "win at all costs" mentality...generalizing of course. Very cool.

I agree completely with your assessment of the Dakar today. Inspite of the corporate influence, the Dakar seems to still have its "Mojo". It is a monumental undertaking, no matter your funding source.

From a personal observation, I see that same thirst for adventure and challenge shown in the documentary within the commentary of this web-site. Seems that there are a significant number of us inmates with that same wonderlust for the unknown?? Some to a much greater degree than others.....

Cool documentary. Stumbled onto it a few days ago, fairly easy to find in hi-def.

Those first rallies in the late 70's/early 80's must have been amazing, source your own petrol, bring your own food, navigate by compass and sextant.
