Baja Designs LED on my 690R

Took the birthday candle headlight out and was stunned how easily the Squadron LED bolted in:

I did have to grind a little plastic off some spacers for the top mount, but only to make it easier to pop the screws thru. those being the white bits on the top two mounts:

popped it back on the fender, I'm 100 percent sure how this is gonna play out. in this pic, its not far from where it will sit. Kinda far from the top clamp. The fork bands on the 690 are a pain to force through the plastic backing. I'm tempted to modify it, BUT... For now i'm going to work on moving the bundle of wiring out from dead center behind the headlight so they aren't pressed up on the cooling fins.

As soon as I posted that comment about the mount straps being a pain I figured out the tool to pull them thru: "String"

being an Idiot(capitol I intended), I forgot to plug in the damn light. I had it plugged in, its bright as hell, but then I started moving wires and wanted it out of the way.

no matter, I need to take it off again to zip tie the bundles in their new homes and rewire my GPS. (I also forgot to pick up zip ties)

well, of course...

gonna put a programmable dimmer on it as soon as that arrives, and tune it down to street levels for normal riding.

Great. You'll fit right in with the ricers and their purple HID's

3600 "blinding lumens" as claimed by Baja Designs. Zero attempt at beam control, and you're riding on the street.

I guess as long as you can see, then it's okay to just blind everybody else on the road

He's just bitter that he lives in CT and you're living in riding paradise.

Lot of grumpy old codgers on this forum.

Ride on man, thanks for the review.

Looks good! I am still running the Trail Tech X2 HID setup. Plug and play. It was panned here after I bought it as being unreliable but after a year and a half it is still working fine. The Squadron is tempting though! I think I may wait until a street legal LED solution appears, just because I am too lazy to mess with a dimmer at this point, but for sure LED is the way to go.

What year mask is that?

Looks like the smaller light, not the bigger light that the 2012+ have?

street legal in the strictest terms would mean "DOT approved" in most states... which I doubt will ever happen. unless you find a DOT certified part from an existing machine and graft it into a housing that can be further adapted to different bikes.

which actually doesn't sound that hard. but the devil is in the details.

I will update this as the dimmer arrives, and I can take it out of the garage.

Been pretty busy between work, kid, and painting the kitchen, haven't taken any pics yet but I did get the Skene dimmer wired up today. It's amazingly programmable and can provide multiple levels of light powers using 12v, ground, or open signals in addition to the on/off and highbeam switch. Really cool piece.

I popped it in without a 3 pole switch and using the default setting for 50 percent power at on, and 100 percent at highbeam. Might need to go down to 30 or 40 for normal highway use;)

Only catch is that the light is aimed as low as possible, but is still a bit high. It is only aimed where I want it with the forks compressed about an inch and a half. I'm looking at alternative means to mount the mask further out at the top (BD gives you spacers but IMHO they aren't a deep enuf correction.). I'm also going to look at ways to possibly reposition the light in the mask....

That sure is a nice looking setup, the original 690 light was really lacking. How do you like the color, they say daylight, but is that a lot like a fluorescent light.
