Sweet little motor, Arch. Any idea if it's a Conley or Replica Engine, or something one-off?

Laugh

Don't really know much about it, Rich. A friend had just shared the link with me. Here's their main page. All sorts of neat little gearhead things to be found there! What a hoot...

Cool arch...it reminded me of something i saw years ago in the back blocks of sydney. It was called pole racing (not the aircraft type) The track was a concrete circle about 20 meters in diameter & about a meter wide all the way around. The cars...about a foot long were tethered to a centre pole by some wire. The centre pole had a base plate that a bloke stood on. A chap would put a broomstick on top of the car & use it to push start the car...once it fired it was too highly geared to overcome the torque required so the chap in the middle would grab the wire & start to whip the car around (much like lunging a horse) the car would hit its powerband & friggin' take off so fast that you had a lot of trouble focusing on it. They had a radar set up & i saw one hit 300 kph (180 mph !!).

Once it had registered its top speed someone would lower a broom down onto the track slowly & there was a small bit of wire (looked like a radio arial) that would hit the broom & cut the fuel off. I have never seen it since but it shows that small can be fast.
