Tyres
Thanks for the info fella's, very helpful. The T63's look pretty good. As do the Dunlop D603 which I reckon have enough space to shed some mud. Dunno about the Shinko 705, they look similar to the Avion Distanzia's I run on my DT230 posty, which stick like shit to a blanket on the tar, but are loosey goosey on grass and gravel.

I recently fitted T63s to replace the origional perished tourances. The front now feels very light and is great around town, you can realy chuck it into roundabouts. But it feels pretty flighty on gravel although it seems to be getting better as they wear or I'm getting used to them. The rear starts sliding and howling (on tar) under even moderate braking and I dont normally use the rear brake much. They feel much coarser on the highway with a lot more vibration. The fronts pretty average in sand as well, no better than the tourance which was really stable on gravel. Undoubtly the T63s would be better in mud, but I normally aviod that. Will probably go back to tourances next change as they suit the roads I normally ride.

Congratulations on your good choice. How much did you pick her up for? Have a look earlier in the thread to see what John171 has done with a B&B XT660Z bashplate with crash bars, I reckon his set up would provide the best engine protection out of all the bashplates. He also uses a B&B rear rack.

Hey fellas, have done my homework on every brand of pannier and rear rack on the market, I reckon I'll probably go with the SW-Mototech Quick Lock range. Anyone got any experience with the SW-Mototech gear?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Love the size of the little rear rack, which you simply add adapter plates to when the need arises. Reckon the OTR tail light mod will look brilliant with the rack ; ; ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I particularly like the idea of the quick release alloy luggage rack extension plate which is ideal for soft bags, a rolly bag or even a swag. ![]() ![]() ![]()

SW Motech gear is fantastic, kitted the KLR up with all their gear including crash bars etc. the fit was first class and everything performed well................ and ..................... it was actually dust and waterproof!!!!!!!
Only thing i will say is you definately need some "Yamalube" ont he zips as they seem to dislike the dust a fair bit. Motorad Garage were fantastic with their supply of the SW Motech gear - http://www.motorradgarage.com.au/ Pics look bloody good

Bash Plate
Robo / Stormsearcher
Sorry for the late reply, I've been at Phillip Island. My bash plate is not made by B & B it is made by Guard It. It is the one made for the Tenere 660 so you need to make two small brackets for the back engine mount to make it fit. It also will not fit with the low header pipes that you are looking at stormsearcher only a high exhaust. You can get the Guard It bash plate from adventuremoto, it's on their web site and I have found them good to deal with. Cheers John. |

tourance tyres
Hi Plodalong,
I have to agree with your observations about the tourances. I hadn't had much experience with this sort of tyre before only full knobby's, road bike tyres or back in the days the old trials universal. When I first saw the tourance's on the XT I was very dubious and going by the look of them I was going to rip them off straight away without even trying them going for something more aggresive. But then the tight arse came out in me and I decided to at least run the bike in on them. While in mud I think they would be not much good on tar and made gravel roads they have been great. I have even done some tight steep ( DRY) trails with them and they have surprised me on what they can do. I can't recomend them for checking the cows on a duey / frosty morning unless you want to practice your side ways action though. Anyway after my long windedness all I really wanted to say is that if they work for you and the type of riding your doing stick with them. Cheers John. |

Well I bit the bullet and ordered the SW Motech pannier and rear racks with the extender plate. Will get some photos of the install if anyone is interested.
![]() Also on another note, when I'm not fixing bikes I love to read about adventures from around the world and came across Adventure Bike Rider magazine from the UK and $30 Aus get you a digital subscription to all of their mags for an entire year. Great reading, highly recommend it. Robo

Xt660r rim locks
Just realised when I was checking spoke tension on my wheels, my XT660R doesn't have rim locks nor a hole to install them into. Is this just mine or is it the same across the board?
Thanks Robo

& I carnt find a sutible one that will fit either, a 18inch rim would best solve this problem. On a side note: If anyone has a standard Yamaha Tenere screen & want to sell it, shoot me a PM
