Savanah Way

The Savanah way is a great route and fairly well known. You can take as many detours as you like depending on your time but there is plenty of dirt anyway!!!
Has to be done during the dry season and a decent fuel range is required. There are plenty of guide books on the route and surrounding areas also it shows up on most decent maps.

look on the map for Hells Gate (you wont find it on Google maps and find a way from there to Lawn Hill National Park. Its worth spending the time to hire a canoe for 3 hours ( they are sitting ready on the shore)and go canoeing up the gorge in i think it called Adels Grove, in the NP.

From Lawn Hill National park heading east, the road is easily passable in a car, but the route from Hells gate is 4WD only, so should be interesting enough

Yep Savanah Way is the go, i don't think Hells Gate does fuel any more, would be worth checking that, not sure also if you can access Doomadgee, been 4 years since I've been there, Lawn Hill well worth a visit same as Kingfisher Camp, you'll go through KF camp to get to Lawn Hill, resupply in Burketown, Normanton, Karumba etc.
Plenty to see and do along the way, if it's pension day stay away from the purple pub in Normanton.

Not going to hijack your thread Andrew, but will take a lot of notice. A gang of us here in SA want to do Cairns to Broome with the same requirements as you. I've done some basic map sessions and queried Google and get some great options. Early days but we're looking around June/July 2014. Good luck with your planning..

There was a thread a while ago about Hells Gate having fuel again. It may pay to give them a call to find out for sure.

fuel

Actually I have no concerns about fuel. Don't recon its an extreme run.will set up the bike to have a 1000 km range if needed but its fun to ride a light bike.will call up hells gate before I ride.

It will depend a lot on the March/April rainfall as to wether the road will be passable. It is quite often not passable until mid May. Wet season runs from April to May. At the moment it hasn,t been very wet so you will just have to keep an eye on things.
