Toured in Belgium ?
Probably in the next 18 months or so I feel like I really want to take a moto trip to Europe. One great idea is northern Italy and southern Switzerland.
But since I have a large appreciation for Belgian beer and brewers, a week touring around Belgium sounds fantastic. In the interest of keeping the total cost down I was wondering about the ability to take a room in the brewing monasteries. It seems like I've read in the past about people staying in the monasteries. I welcome any thoughts on a trip through Belgium ! Thanks ! Brent

Hi Brent,
Cheap overnighting in monasteries is more something they do in Spain & France (pelgrims on road to Compostella). But no belgian beers there. Here in Belgian, as far as i know, the trappist-monasteries don't do it (maybe for groups or for spiritual reasons). If you're into belgian beer you can visit some breweries overhere, there are plenty We're a small country but have over 1000 beer brands. I live 45 mins from Westfleteren, elected best trappist of the world. If you need more info be free to ask.

I'm on the tent space map and can host you.
Orval monastery/brewery is not to far from my house and there are a few other breweries around, like Rulles or Sainte-Hélène. + the best beer shop in Belgium is 15 km from here. And last, Luxembourg and its cheap fuel is very close too. |

The ardennen regio is very nice travelling, and in the maredsous brewery you can drink and eat very well.
Driving tip; drive the Meuse river downwards(take a break at maredsous) and dive further in the ardennes after that.. If you're into beer, the Rochefort sereis (6, 8 and 10) are a must drink! |
