TAT tire transition...

For the TAT veterens here,

If I were to depart TN on new tires, say 80%D/20%S, would they be getting pretty worn by the time I really needed them out west?

Does it make any sense to start with a 50/50 set or whatever semi worn tires I have on and plan on changing When I enter CO?

Are 50/50 tires a liability on the eastern TAT?

Does the western TAT require excellent knobs?

50/50 tires will be fine all the way through Colorado...unless it rains and gets mucky!!! That'll be a judgement call. You'll want knobbies after CO, like my favorite Dunlop 606's which will make it from CO to Oregon. If your worried start w/ 606's in TN and plan on a tire change in Utah.

You won't need aggressive knobbies for the western part.

you really won't need knobbies in CO either. do your tire change in Moab.
