Sub $100 glove recommendations

I am looking for a new pair of gloves. My current ones are a pair of Aerostich Elkskin Gauntlets. I was thinking about getting a pair of Elkskin Ropers from them.

What would you recommend for 100 dollars or less? I don't need them for winter time, I have a pair of winter gloves. I don't like them too short and I have never been a fan of hard armor.

I would get the Competition Elkskin Ropers from Aerostich, the ones with the velcro fastener at the wrist.

My current summer gloves are Lee Parks Deer Tours. They're nice but once you're used to elkskin everything else feels paper thin in comparison. Next time around I will be back to elkskin. YMMV

I got mine on close out. For 70bucks. These are full gauntlet style road race gloves.

I've also had good luck with Olyimpia brand gloves.
But none of the shops around here carry the anymore.

I love my Lee Parks Deer Tours.

The version with the extra long gauntlets exceed $100 though.

Aerostitch is good stuff and I like to support them.

Having said that, can anybody tell me why any Roper glove @ $50 and above is better than another glove made with the same skin? In other words, what makes Aerostitch and Lee Parks better than Tillman and Miller. I weld so we have many different types of gloves. Padded, unpadded, lined, unlined, Deerskin, Goatskin, Elkskin, Pigskin, etc. If I do not ride with knuckle protection, same as "Ropers", I use a Miller Goatskin Gauntlet with Kevlar thread at $20. I rode several years with the Tillman Goatskins, Pigskins, Deerskins, etc for $12.

Again, if you want knuckle protection that is a different story but Ropers do not give that anyway. Industrial made welding gloves are very well made, have padding, allow GPS touchscreen operation, and are comfortable. No, they are not "Designer" name brand but I will put the equivalent leather welding glove up against any Roper anytime.

Go to your nearest welding supply place and check them out, you may be surprised at a fraction of the cost.

Yep, I think you hit on it. It's all about the name. Personally I am going with a pair of 5.11 Tactical gloves for this next riding season. Like the others, they're not cheap but if they were marketed towards the motorcycle community they would cost more. Personally, I think palm protection is more likely needed than knuckles. But, that's just an opinion.

I just sent an order in yesterday for a pair of Fox Creek Elkskin Riding Gloves. They are on their way as I write this. I have been on a bit of a glove buying tear lately, so to continue with that theme, I bought these. Looking forward to getting this pair of gloves. Maybe then I can move on to another fetish of mass collection......

I like the competition ropers, and the combination of knuckle padding, extra length in the wrist, and windshield wiper on the left hand (very important!, I get caught in the rain a lot), make it worth the extra bucks. Especially as they last a long, long time (as long as you keep them for motorcycling, and not welding/grinding).

I have some Held Steves too, love the feel if I really want performance riding, but I wear the comp ropers a lot more.

I am going to check out all the brands you guys mentioned and see if my local welding shop got some flexible gloves.

I am really liking the idea of the competition ropers too. Anyone tried the motoport gloves too? They seemed pretty neat for the same price zone.

if you're looking for a spring/summer glove a stars makes decent quality gloves with kevlar stitching and good leather.

For warm weather, I use Dainese Sickles. I'm definitely going to pick up something with gauntlets at some point, even if they are only leather welding gloves. The more options, the better in my book.

I wore Olympia Sport Gels for years & was very pleased. They are a good, medium weight, leather glove. Not real thick & heavy, not real light & thin. Right in the middle. I believe there are 2 gauntlet lengths available, & some nice gel padding in the palm for vib killing comfort. Best of all, they are very reasonably priced. Aerostitch has them for $65, but I've never paid more than $45 for them. Cheap enough to just buy a new set every 3-4 years when they get worn.

I finally wore out my first pair. It took seven years of nearly daily use with no special care on my part. At the end, there was little fading, they never bled dye on my hands, and they finally wore through at a couple of fingertips. I got a replacement pair for Chistmas.
