Glad to hear you are okay and getting everything sorted out! From watching the video and reading your details you have helped me make a decision for my return trip back to Alaska. I was considering the DR or a KLR, it looks like it will be a DR. I bent a wheel on my Wee on the way to Prudhoe Bay, and turned back for fear of it cracking or breaking after I beat on it to get it to hold air. That and it was really out of round! I didn't have enough time to head back up the Dalton after replacing the wheel, so I'll head back north in 2015 on a DR650. Thanks for sharing this, it's an amazing story!

Wow...I gotta tell you, when you sat up and I could see the shadow of your helmet on the ground, I thought man it looks like he might go out. When you fell over I feared the worst. Luckily you were able to move and get back to the road it could have taken a long time before anyone found you. Glad you're OK.

I think all the grey hair happened during the fall. It was completely all black 5 minutes prior.

Thanks Al. I may be getting in touch with you regarding the rear subframe bracket. For now, I deferring all cosmetic and chassis type fixes until after I sort out getting the bike running smooth again.

Man Joe, your video makes me sick to my stomach. A friend emailed me a link to the youtube video and it was so shocking I posted it up at a couple forums. Someone else found your posts here and linked them in. This video will probably go viral.

So glad you came away with minimal injuries.

My new siggie.
I'm honored that I was able to provide a sig worthy quote. Though it feels strange that they were uttered during my blackout period, so I have no recollection of having said them. BTW, I changed my sig line too.

How it Happened

Hi Joe, That was spectacular - especially because you walked away (figuratively speaking). I recently crashed on my XR650L and I think the reason was similar to yours. In my case, I had so much weight on the back of the bike that once things started going in the wrong direction, there was no stopping it.

Mine wasn't near as spectacular (about the 1:30 mark).

I didn't notice your post time so I was assuming you meant today, but I happened to scan yesterday's episode which is now available on their site and found the segment.

Edit: I found a link to just the segment about my video. Obviously some of their details are wrong. I wish it were only a 7' cliff. http://www.rightthisminute.com/video...-falling-cliff

Apparently, they're just playing my youtube video and broadcasting it. I don't think it has been uploaded to their site (though I haven't checked). I got an email from them a few days ago but I didn't reply so the only info they had was my initial youtube video description, which I've since updated.

This is getting a bit surreal. I wonder who will play me in the movie version?

Just adding my support and general 'holy s@#$' statement to the crash. You made the right choice also, I would've done the exact same thing without even thinking about it. Glad you're OK!

I noticed quite a resemblance to Team Longriders' avatar...

Joe, Glad everything turned out mostly OK. That was a scary crash!

Have you upgraded the suspension on the DR?
I've seen numerous KLR's with stock suspension bounce out of control like that but never a DR.
