Lots of broken trees here in Earlysville. No power, Yamaha makes a nice little generator though. Roads were blocked from all the broken pines everywhere, yesterday am they were dropping like flies. Next door neighbor, his son, my wife and I went out with saws and cleared up the main street and side street near our houses enough for one lane of travel. He has a little 4wd John Deere that we used to push tree sections out of the road. He still has two trees on his roof, I just have one large branch on my garage so I'm not complaining.
Sure looks nicer this am. Now, time to shut down the generator for fueling...

The wether guy on Ch 28 said, "well I told you the accumulation pattern all depended on where the snow/rain line ended up, and apparently it went west, as predicted by the European Model". So I guess we outsource weather prediction in the US too...

So, something to add to the bike gear: Tow Strap. Ask me how I know....Went booming about yesterday in the 6 inches of snow we got in Stafford. Bike stopped running about 2.5 miles from home. Pushed it up one hill and bump started down the other side but wouldn't stay running. Called Flo at 0630. By 0930 Flo was still a no-show but promised that the tow truck was on its way. By this time two good old boys out 4 wheeling stopped to check on me. They came back and suggested they tow me. They towed me home no problem with their tow strap. My plan was to jump in the hot tub after freezing my ass off waiting for the tow truck but power was out at home. Stayed off for about 6 hours. So the dog and I crawled into bed for a long winters nap. I would have pushed her home but it was mostly uphill by that point. I still need to troubleshoot this problem.

I carry a piece of rope with me on the DRZ. It's good to have along for other possibilities too.

Geeze Eric, amidst all the mayhem you post that? Hey, you could have ventured out this way to test that 4WD! I'm sure you wouldn't have had to come too far - sounds like Earlysville was quite a playgroud.

I bet pepco is breathing a sigh of relief. Those Oak Barrel Stouts hit the spot, don't they?

Sounds like you had a true adventure! Not one you might have chosen, I expect, but one through which you were challenged, productive, and triumphant. I'm sure that the sense of teamwork and accomplishment somewhat outweighed the pain of the experience.

What a blessing to have a generator for these rare occasions when it really makes a differnce. Wish I could save some of that wood from the landfill to build a reserve for heating. Hate to see that waste, first of good trees, then of good wood.

Looking forward to pics... you did get pics, right?

How do you know?

That was inconvenient; hope you get that sorted.

Other possibilities...

There's nothing wrong with being prepared, and dreaming of potential opportunities.
