March!
Days are longer, sun is higher, temps are milder.... Got out for a 3 hour 100 miler the other day for some fun, errands and Adk tag. Good times! A bit surreal looking at ice fisherman looking at me as I rode by. Several big thumbs up from drivers too. I'm gonna start digging into the bikes now though and its supposed to be easy 40's this week ![]() If the salt gets a good wash away rain I may take out the TDM for a spin though.

New(ish) Lump
As anyone who had the misfortune of riding behind me last year knows, the old XT has been burning more oil than fuel lately. It also had a tendency to, for lack of a better term, get stuck in gear. The clutch worked fine but the top of my foot would get bruised trying to get her to shift from first to second. My gut has been telling me that this problem probably wouldn't remedy itself and might even get a whole lot worse.
So, as the only rider in upstate NY who can't afford a KLR, I had a tough decision to make. Tear it down and give it a proper rebuild, which would cost way more than the bike was worth, or look around for a decent but cheap replacement engine, which would also cost more than the bike is worth but maybe not as much. I decided to go with option B. Here's what I ended up with: ![]() The seller said it runs, comes from a low-mileage bike, doesn't leak or smoke, has good compression, and shifts fine. It does have good compression; the jury's still out on the rest. It took a beating in shipping, ripped the carb right off the intake, but i planned on putting my carb and boots on it anyway because I know they're properly sorted. I'll probably put my stator on it too, for the same reason. Should have it all changed over this weekend. So prepare to tighten your chin straps, all you KLR riding Tug Hillers, or your jaws will drop to your tankbags at the sight of this awesome rip-snorting reborn XT flying about the hill! See, you'll actually be able to see it now, instead of a cloud of smoke that may or may not be hiding a bike in the middle.

Oh yeah.
I think it gave the poor Fedex guy a hernia though. Did you ever get your tigger fixed?

No its still in hibernation. We sold our house in Adams and I'm scrambling to find a place to call home. Didn't anticipate selling so fast so I'm in oh shit mode.

Wow, that's kind of big news. Are you planning on staying in the area or heading south to join the socks & sandals crowd?
As far as the bike goes, you probably have a solid month before riding season really arrives anyway. I wish it weren't so, but I don't think mother nature has given up yet. She's just resting.

Kevin,
I have a full size pickup and an enclosed trailer and I'm more than willing to help you move anything. You probably don't want to let me near anything fragile or valuable but if you have to move cement blocks or the like, I'm your guy.

Thanks a lot guys I appreciate it. Actually my daughter bought the house and we vacated so they could remodel. Stuff's all in storage and I was able to keep the bikes in my/their garage til spring. Its amazing how much junk you accumulate in 20 years!
I tried to make a case for margaritaville but looks like I'm staying in the area, probably near the lake.
