Long Weekend Trip from Madird
Planning a long weekend trip in the next month or so. Living in Madrid, Spain and thinking of something like Porto, Lisbon or Faro in Portugal or else Gibraltar.
The exact number of days I can get off work and hence just how much I can do is still to be confirmed. Does anyone know of any must-see / good-to-see places in the area? Also if any locals know of any ride-outs or events coming up please let me know. |

Being in Madrid you are equidistant from just about everywhere in Spain
![]() + 1 for Extremadura but also try the Gredos mountains on the way then the Sierra de la Peña de Francia area in Extremadura itself - fantastic. The Pyrenees in Navarre are near enough but Aragin and Catalonia are a bit far unless you like motorways. Nearer still try Teruel: the Montes Universales and the Sierra de Albarracín (a brilliant place to stay - it's true in this case thatit's the prettiest town in Spain!) Almost next door, the Maestrazo mountain bordering onto Valencia, are amazing. Any why not Asturias or the Picos - enter these via Cervera de Pisuerga - fabulous! More remote or unknown - the Montes de Leon - an easy ride from Madrid - less so for me over here in Catalonia but I'd go again tomorrow :) Back in Teruel - have a look at my HISS rally if you're at a loose end this October :) Regs Simon |
