Hello from Arizona

Hello all!

I purchased a 2012 V Strom 650 ABS Adventure this week. I had a NC700X and as much as I loved that bike, I realized it was not quite what I was looking for. I have a pretty good D/S background. (KLR250,DR350SE,XR650R,XL650) mixed in with some road bikes (GL1200, 2 Kawasaki Concours,GL1800). I really like the DL650 but I only have 150 miles on it. Today I have a 200 blue highway ride in sketchy weather. I have to get it dirty sooner or later! Looking forward to learning all about this great little bike. I still have my Goldwing so time will be split between the two. I added a TourTech skidplate today (good) and Tour Tech Hand guards (so-so).

Thanks for having me!

Arizona Mike

Nice looking Wee, welcome to the club.

I am really growing fond of the new style of the Wee's...if they had given them spoked wheels and a 21"

It's a real smile machine...
Like many things on the innerwebs the fuel issue, surging is over dramatized, just like the buffeting. I have over 30,000 miles on mine with a stock windshield and no changes to the fuel system. I have ridden bikes with more wind protection and smoother throttles but it isn't that bad.

Enjoy your new Vee

I couldn't get it to work on my '09, but maybe I didn't run it long enough [think I did though].

Or fit a switch to override it when you want to do the serious dirt stuff.

Once the switch is done it solves your problem.

201 miles by lunch today along the Mexican border. Rain, hail and strong winds made for a very interesting but awesome day. I really love this bike. I have a few things to do to make it to my liking but she is very close already!

Got my DL1000 on 2-19. Put about 1200 miles on it so far. Had to put it in the shop for a week getting the fuel gauge fixed now I'm waiting on the ECM to get here and take it back to the shop so they can plug it in. All in all it seems to be a great bike so far. Oh so much more power than the KLR!! After a 200 mile ride the other day even the wife was impressed! When we stopped for gas she says "Hey!!! My butt ain't even numb!" So I guess the bikes a keeper! I do miss the mileage of the KLR a bit though...

I ran mine out of gas about 200 feet from a gas station once.

Ran the SV out of gas about a 1.5 miles from a gas station. Nice day for a walk!

Buddy system works best here. Bring a gatorade bottle for fuel.

Checking in with a 2009 ABS I got a month ago.

I see a west coast and east coast meet up. Who's gonna set up a midwest meet up?

Here is a pic of my 2006 DL1000 I bought last April. It came with upgraded suspension and handlebars. I also traded seats from a 2011 DL650, so it's like riding a "new" bike.

So, I am thinking of buying a set of more dirt /gravel road oriented tires. Currently it is running tourence exp front and back. What would be a step up from the metzlers, and still be good at 65mph?
