Dawn breaking over the Arabian peninsula at 35,000 ft. It's strange that I covered the length of Africa in 8 hours on a plane what took me 22 months on a bike Air travel is too fast! But nice to experience it once again. Besides motorcycles and cars, I'm also a plane enthusiast and enjoyed this flight on Qatar Airways' Boeing 777-300ER, the largest twin-engined plane flying the most powerful jet engine in the skies. This GE90-115B is a beast of an engine generating about 145,000 horsepower. In comparison, sanDRina only makes 39 hp
Having a 13 hour layover in Doha and been put up in a fancy 4-star hotel. Had a nice walk around town and getting lots of friendly smiles from my brown people Next stop, Chennai!

Hello, India!! I have arrived in my motherland, as in that's where my mother lives
Having a chat with my mom on the terrace of our family house in the Chennai suburb of Porur. Good to be home and surrounded by coconut trees. Mom is cooking up all my delicious favorites, such as idlis with mutton curry and dosas with prawn curry She's so happy that I'm finally home; safe and sound after covering all that ground between Chicago and Chennai.
I know this is my family because my sister and dad are already on it with the paperwork, having started the process to get me a local drivers license, which takes a month. Should be good timing for sanDRina's arrival

A South Indian Vegetarian Thali at Tirupati. A thali is an Indian meal where you first get served small helpings of a variety of foods and then can ask for more of what you liked. It's usually unlimited except for the dessert and special items

Over the weekend, I made a pilgrimage with my family to the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, located at the top of a mountain near Tirupati. It's considered one of the holiest sites for Hindus and pilgrims throng there in the tens of thousands daily to queue in long lines for darshan, getting sight of the holy deity. And after darshan, comes the parsadam, the offering that has been blessed by the deity, which is a huge ladoo at Tirumala. The temple has been there at least for 1,500 years and its rich history is depicted in a nearby museum.

awesome! as soon as i saw that pic, i thought of the bombay bistro, a quite decent indian restaurant in rockville, md that serves thali's - both meat and wegetarian. it's not all you can eat, but you will have a hard time finishing one of their platters. if you ever happen to be in the dc area, it's my treat!
