I do have a soft spot in my heart for the 2 strokes!! It was fun to get the DT1 and do the re-creation after 35 years away from dirt track racing.
My focus these days is more towards the vintage flattrack bikes based on the Yamaha TT500.
Don't want to throw in the towel on 2 smokers, but I have really got the racing bug again and.... well at 65, there's not much time to waste anymore!!

Wonderful thread

On a whim, just did a google search on the DT-1 and found my way here. My second bike in 1971 was a used 1968 DT-1. Had a great time riding the gravel pits, too and from high school, and even a 500 mile round trip up into the Adirondack mountains. Nice restoration work and great pics. thanks.

My buyer was having trouble gathering the cash.
The DT1 is staying in my familyroom and not going to Thailand.
I'm happier with it here anyway......

Just found this thread. My first Yamaha was a '68 DT1. Motocrossed it in Austin, Tx and also rode it to class at UT. Sold it and then in 71, bought another one. Moded the frame and MX'ed it too. Suspension wasn't very good, but they were both fast.

Great memories!! Wish I had a DT1 in 1968. I rode a 1969 Suzuki TS250 back then. Not anything close to what the DT1 was.
Merry Christmas!!!

I had to look at the flat track pics on flickr. The DT1 looked like it really belonged there. Never got to FT either of mine, just MX'ed them. The TT is nice, too. tomp dd50

Make sure the boy has on shoes before riding. He is one lucky young man to get such a cool bike, so early in life. tp
