I just repaired a decompression cable on a RT2. The outer casing was still ok so I went to a bicycle shop and bought a new piece of inner wire. Heated and removed the end pieces from the old wire. Silver soldered one end piece on the new cable, put the new wire in the casing in place on the bike, slide the other end piece on to see how long the wire needed to be and then removed the cable assembly and silver soldered in place. The new wire cost $5.

I use Venhill cable kits.
