It's a nice ride.............

Up 231 to Oneonta, and up 75, or 79 to Lake Guntersville. All the smaller county roads that I have been on around there are good roads, with nice scenery.

Pick a direction & head out.

I have been doing some riding south of Birmingham in the Cahaba Wildlife Management Area. It starts in Helena and extends south past West Blocton. There are a ton of dirt roads running through old mining areas and a lot of these roads run near the Cahaba River. Lots of neat sites, varied terrain and historical sites.

I am going to ride a few more roads and put up a ride report soon.

If you want some gravel try this one. it aught to be good for a day trip.

Head toward Taaladega and hop on 77 south. about halfway to Ashland turn left/east on to CR209 (Horns Lake Road)

about a mile or so in turn left onto Skyline Drive at the cemetary it turns to gravel shortly thereafter. Stay on Skyline until it meets 181 and turns to pavement.

Take the pig trail back down. SR 281 (Cheaha Rd). This one is pavement, but its pretty rough.

Have a good time.

Lurking this thread. I have relocated to southeastern Alabama and so far haven't found anything to spectacular. My scouting trips are starting to get bigger and northier .

Anyone riding this weekend within a couple hours of Ft Rucker that doesn't mind a tag along let me know! I'm on a 990 ADV R.

Yeah, northern Alabama looks good, like I said my scouting trips are getting northier. I am used to having some great roads 10 minutes away, not 3 hours...Hoping I just haven't found it yet.

GSBS, an inmate here, wrote a book on riding in Alabama. This is the website for it. I dont know about your neck of the woods but he nailed a lot of the greats up here in the North half of the states.

My wife got me that book as a gift . I guess it's just this location as the black hole of adventure riding. Seems to be good groups of people in every direction from here, all about 3 hours away. I have no problem doing 500+ miles in a day, it's just the 3 hour trip to start the day is a little lame.

I'm working on the routes in that book, trying to tie them into a route from my location. Unfortunately even the book routes for this area involve a lot of highway. I think this weekend I'm going to head north and find some of the central Alabama routes and start working there.

Thanks for the info though.
