Sheep Bridge questions

A couple of friends and I are going to go to Sheep Bridge in the next couple of weekends. My questions are:

1.) Is the route from carefree-cave creek to FR 24 the best?

2.) Where is a good place to park the trucks?

A guy here at work suggested parking at Seven Springs, as it was (is?) paved and used by horse people. Thanks in advance.

Jeff

I'd park at the wildcat staging area to do this loop. I've never had a problem there, even when I forgot to lock my truck one time. And you don't need one of those pesky tonto passes.

Unless your riding big bikes, make it a clockwise loop. Come back south on the east side of the Verde river & Horseshoe Res, and back under the dam spillway - very fun especially when they releasing water!

No big bikes, just 250's and 450's. We weren't planning on doing the loop, but now ya'll got me to thinking. What sort of mileage is this loop? The P.O. of my bike said the 2.8 clarke tank was only good for about 75 miles. I have about a gallon extra that I can bring with (4 MSR bottles), so theorectically about 100 miles till I'm on fumes. Also, how much of this would be on paved roads? I'm running Maxxis Maxcross IT's, and am also not street legal. I could squeak out a short jaunt on paved roads, but don't want to do a bunch. I know one o the other bikes is street legal and am unsure of the other two.

The loop is something like 80 or 81 miles if I remember right. So fuel-wise you'd be fine with the extra carry. However, there is a fair amount of pavement - maybe 20 miles? And this would be along Bartlett Dam Rd and up Cave Creek Rd towards Seven Springs Rd until the pavement ends near the Sears-Kay Ruins. I've seen lots of enforcement in the area, especially on Bartlett Dam Rd. Suggest you get street legal in the future - very easy to do in AZ and it opens things up a lot for these types of rides.

There is a developed parking area a half mile after going through the little cabin settlement along Seven Springs Rd (long before the 7Springs campground). Doesn't require a Tonto Pass or anything. This way you don't have to drive your truck over too much dirt.

The Route is not challenging, but an interesting and enjoyable ride. I've made it on my Selvio. The short side trip up Humbolt Mtn is very worthwhile for the views. Have fun!

I did emissions, but failed...barely. At the time i wasn't worried since I can be in open desert in about 45 seconds from my driveway at home. I may try it again. I may just lean it out a half turn or something. If I remember i was only like 2-3 points off on my CO's.

Looking at maps and satellite photos, there appears to be lots of side trails off of FR24 and FR269. For this first time, we may just bomb around there.

-edit-

I just looked. The CO standard is 5.50% and I was 7.34%. My HC's were great at 770 out of 1800.

Emisions

When I did emision 2 weeks back, I was told the Bill had passed and that it only needed to be updated int he computers ? Currently, emisions is still required, however that could change anyday apparently.
