Never woulda happened if he had been riding a decent motorcycle.

Dude is a total badass! No broken bones, but a partially collapsed lung..... and he was going to continue the ride only a day or two after!!!!!! He reasoned that it would be no fun being so sore and climbing to over 12K with 1.5 lungs So he bagged the ride.

I did that section early in the morning, and I was almost completely worn out before lunch time. Loooots of deep sand and a few pretty gnarly ledges on uphill climbs. Later in the day I bailed to the interstate to make sure I didn't run out of gas, but not before I bent the ever-loving shit out of my bash plate on an innocent looking downhill ledge.

So who wants to do the western TAT this year?

Honestly, after doing Colorado and about 60% of Utah on my 800, next time I'll be taking my 450. It was nice to have the smooth twin for the east and midwest portions where it's long and flat (and for the trip back)... out here it gets rugged. It would be worth the discomfort if it improved my chances of self rescue, even if it meant shipping the bike back home at the end. I got damn lucky several times the first go around.
