off idle hesitation

Howdy
There's a thread somewhere here, regarding off idle hesitation and how an aftermarket muffler pipe cures this. Anyone?....

My bike runs really well, the dealer re-mapped to XCW and I've geared it down but it still hesitates right off idle which is a PITA for lofting over obstacles. I've looked at that FMF Snap and read the literature on the Best Dual Sport Motorcycles site but would like to hear from someone here.

Geek - Lovely pics!! Is the skidplate the TMD? If so, do you think it possible (though a bit messy I'm sure)to do oil changes with the plate on if I punch a holesaw through the plate to access the bottom screen? Can I access the drain bolt and side screen or will they also require some more holesawing?

I'm not sure why you would you want to do oil changes with the plate on.. but it would require a bunch of cutting.

I put some double sided tape under the plate's mounts the first time I cinched it down. They have stayed put from then on. 20 seconds with a t-handle and the plate is removed. Less than 30 seconds to put it back.

You'd have to cut 3 holes for the 3 drain plugs and you'd have to chop away where the oil filter cover is - and then when you removed the bolts you'd fill the plate with oil because it shoots out at an angle.

my skidplate is the hyde one btw.. I'm sold on the plastic now. my previous plates have been aluminum and over time they get harder and harder to remove/replace as they get banged up. This thing gets gouges and scratches but doesn't change shape whatsoever.

I had heard horror stories over the mount and dismount of the TMD plate hence my query on keeping it on the bike during oil changes. Just checked out the Hyde plate. Indeed that is some excellent coverage, a lot more than most other plates out there. Yep no way you'd be effectively be doing oil changes with that on the bike even with a couple holesaw holes. How many oil changes have you done with the double tape holding the plate mounts now?

Not a 500 but close

Hey guys, I know this is the 500 thread, but thought I'd post up my flea market link in here. Selling my plated 450 XC-W due to work, health and competing interests.

Here you go...http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=871473

Thanks, TW
