Husky 450 SM

I need some info/help. First let me say I ride a KLR 650.... don't hang up. A buddy of mine recently bought an 08 Husky 450, maybe factory supermoto, maybe not, but has has it for a few weeks now.
He has been riding with the big Vtwin crowd, hundreds of miles at a time and I said this bike is not designed for such high RPM use for long distances. Am I wrong? I just saw him tonight, nice looking bike but all his gaskets/seals (especially around the starter, but even case seals) are showing new oil pressure or weepage. I think he has been running the bike at crazy sustained RPMs that his bike cannot tolerate. I said regear the bike or buy a cruiser.
It is (or was) a nice bike but I think he is trashing it by running it like a road bike... He has already ran it 5-6 hundred miles freeway with no oil change, check or a valve check.
Am I stupid or what? That tweeked motor is not made for that type of use right? Please give me some input, good or bad so I can relate it to him or give me a price I can take it off his hands and put a new powerplant in it...
