Cool2

So tuff and I spent some time with Terry's boss Ray. He informed us that those "trails" have never been trails but the remnants of an old Edison road. Five years ago, the state mandated that the road be taken out and the natural habitat be restore. The monies spent to rip it up was grant money from the state and not our green sticker funds. The grant money has been exhausted, end of destruction! Now the powers that be will come out and photograph the restoration and give the FS an "at a boy" and go away. The work was done with a doser with ripping tines, not the little trail machine Terry runs over the trails every year. In talking to Ray, I informed him that that ridge line road was their best fire break and completely maintain by the trail users. Ray agreed with this statement and is planning to propose that within the OHV area that it is a firebreak maintained by the OHV users. He strongly suggests that we the OHV community needs to have a strong showing at the CTUC meetings that happen in the evening the third wednesday of each month in Glendale. He also made us aware of a much larger problem looming over our heads. Our glorious state legistrators are trying to take the land between I5, Lake Hughes road and Sawmill road and designate it wilderness.

WOULD BE GREAT TO SEE A STRONG SHOWING OF THE RFBK THIS SUNDAY! STAGE 1, 8:00AM! LET'S FIND OUT WHO WE NEED TO SPEAK TO AND END THE MADDNESS!
The final decision is the Forest Supervisor: Tom Contreras

Supervisor's Office
701 N. Santa Anita Ave.
Arcadia, CA 91006
(626) 574-5216

The person with the most influence about Rowher and works directly for the Forest Supervisor is the District Ranger: Wilburn (Bob) Blount

Santa Clara/Mojave Rivers Ranger
District
28245 Avenue Crocker, Suite 220
Valencia, CA 91355
(661) 269-2808 (Press 9 and spell BLOUNT)

If you are not working with these people you have no influence.

You need to be at their OHV Leadership Meetings. CTUC meetings are fine for the general public. But the deals get done at the OHV Leadership meetings.

They use Ground Ops grant each year to do stuff like they did here. It's ALWAYS TOO LATE to bitch when you see work getting done you don't like. 1 to 3 years too late. You need to get involved NOW at a management level to make changes for the next 3 to 5 years.

Grants for next year are already submitted and in the comment process. But you can affect them NOT getting grants if you don't like what they applied for. Or you can affect the outcome of planning grants they may have requested to change the trail system in a positive or negative way.

What you do on thE ground can earn you respect. But if you don't have a relationship with management... and attend the OHV Leadership meetings you have NO VOICE.

Now go get those DAMN TRAILS OPEN !

so the connector from the top of Falls up to the very top (where Falls crosses the road) is the remnant of an old Edison road that needed to be 'restored'?

i understand it wasn't an 'official' trail as it was not on the map but i don't believe for a second that all the stuff they ripped was old edison road. that is a very poor excuse to rip up every little useful (and fun) trail not on the map.

i agree.

sounds like hot air from Terry's boss.

i'll attend meetings but none of this was mentioned at our trail maintenance. if they knew of all this 3 years ago, you'd think all the times we've volunteered and just BS'd with Terry and the other rangers they'd mention it and give us a heads up that we need to take action.

i'll attend those meetings. i also plan on hitting up District 37 to see if anyone else has been involved with State legislators and Forest Service in regards to more closures, whether it be at Rowher or anywhere else.

it's time that the Rowher Trail Krew gets organized and joins forces with groups that have been involved with the State and local level.

if anyone is interested, let's meet up soon.

Razr find out what Green Stiker grants the Angeles has out for next year right now that affects Rowher. 2014 Grants are already written and submitted. Public Comment period is over soon. You have days until your voice won't matter again until grants for 2015 are underway next Jan.
