Count "ShowMeGirl" from Missouri in on the thread. My husband and I have rode dirt bikes for years but just recently bought duel sport Yamaha 250 to be "legal" when we went out on the back roads. Several people we knew got caught and had to pay some hefty fines... So we thought we would bite the bullet and go legal ( u can call us Bonnie and Clyde).

It sounds like this thread has people from all over with all kinds of different bikes but I'm looking forward to hearing other woman's perspective about riding bikes.

Hitting the road, SOLO

You know that excited/nervous drone that you feel in your gut when you're about to do something you haven't done before? I've got it...

This weekend my son has a scouts camping trip out of town, and MMM is going on in Tellico Plains, TN. Since he won't be home I've decided to make the rally: I've only been to Biketoberfest in Daytona once, about 15 years ago and that was with my then-boyfriend.

I'll be travelling solo, so I had secured an enclosed trailer to haul my bike down there and potentially sleep in, but I went today and got a heated jacket liner, dug out the Wolfman bags and have begun to pack the bike. To hell with the truck and trailer, I'm only taking me and the bike. Mapquest has the trip calculated as almost 6 hours, travelling interstate. I plan to wander a bit since I won't be in any hurry and am looking forward to the solitude only my bike can bring.

Does anyone else get excited over new stuff???

Don't worry about it. I've got 3 and all of them are scooters a Vespa GTS 250, Scarabeo 500 and BV 500. Last year I logged over 15,000 miles and rode in 35 different states on roads ranging from dirt to interstates. A scooter is just a step through frame motorcycle. I've considered buying a standard motorcycle but with a bad hip sometimes swinging a leg order doesn't work as well as I'd like. Plus I missed out the really good deal on an Aprilia I had in mind plus we are out of room when you add in the Buddy 125 (high school student's daily rider), Sports City 250 (college student's daily rider) and the other BV 500 (my husband's).

I just went out and picked up my son's Sports City from California - 1702 miles in 4 days on a 250cc that is 2" too short for me between handlebars and seat but what the heck, it was an adventure. Though I did find that the rev limiter kicks in around 90mph and strong cross winds knock its top speed down by 20mph.

LD, how long did it take yours to heat? I put it on and cranked the bike but didn't want to do too much at just idle RPMs. I don't think I felt much heat even after about 5 mins.

My gerbings heat up real fast..
But don't run them at an Idle..
Not good for your bike

Do you have an in line fuse ?? Check it; It might have blown..

Yes on the inline fuse - the dealer put the 15amp one in there yesterday before I left the store. It was windy outside and I probably didn't give it much time to heat up since I was only idling so it may have gotten warm but I was too chilly to notice! I only had on a SS t-shirt underneath and nothing on top of it. I'll try it in the morning, it's supposed to be 20*!!! I won't leave until it warms up a bit but still - anything less than 70 makes me think COLD! Thanks LD!

And I love my gerbings..
The coldest I'll ride in is -6....Any colder then that the tires really feel strange...

I tried on the heated liner with my new Olympia jacket. I felt and looked like a hi-viz michelin man. No hope for the frumpy, not in winter at least!

You'll find that even in the late spring and early fall you will use your heat in the rain under your coat.. ..

I always remove the liner when I wear heated gear... not need for it.
