I'm a fairly new SD owner. I've had mine a little less than a month. Absolutely loving it so far. Bought my white '08 with 2400 miles on it and it now has a little over 3700. It had a slight tail tidy and ktm 400 throttle cam in it when I bought it, otherwise stock.
Mods so far:
FMF Apex exhaust...not as loud as everyone made it seem to be. It is loud but not to the point I feel I need earplugs. Love the tone.
Removed big awkward mirrors. Plan to put on some crg arrows or something angular to go with the body.
Pazzo shorty levers in black with orange adjusters.
G2 quick turn throttle 50 cam (might try the stock cam before I install the quick turn to see how that goes)
KTM front and rear axle sliders
Motohooligan upper and lower frame sliders (and free mh clutch cover/slider for my order being delayed)
Secondary butterfly removal
Custom dyno tune
SD-R seat/tail conversion

Lacks the grunt of the SD, but similar in some other ways- easy position and handling, sporty but not too committed, fun to ride in town.
Time will tell whether I enjoy it as well as I did the SD, I still regard that bike as a great one.

i really enjoyed my 07 superduke. only had it a few months. it was an orange model with a leo vince exhaust. bought it at an estate sale for $6k with only 1,300 miles. picked it up figuring i might replace the cb1000r with it. ended up riding it for 2 months, loaded the europe fuel map at work (ktm dealer), put 2k on the odometer and still sold it for $8k
it was a blast to ride by myself but no fun with a passenger, unless you enjoy getting head bumped every time you let off the gas by your passenger. fueling was too abrupt to be smooth even when being gentle, which i was ok with an on/off kinda ride for aggressive street riding but not for 2 up.
completely different beast than the new 1290

I've just begun to work on the fueling issues with my new-to-me '07 with 2500 miles, which on my bike don't seem to be that bad. Surges a bit at steady-throttle low RPM cruising, and is on/off abrupt. Mine has Akras and the corresponding fueling map AFAIK. I'm starting with the G2 throttle tamer, and am thinking about trying SAS blockoff plates, airbox removal, and an aftermarket fueling box like the Bazzaz in that order.
I must say that my son has exposed a reservoir of love and of worry within me that I never knew existed. --nskitts, 9/2/12
