My whole family went on a Sth Pacific cruise 4 years ago and inc everything we spent on board and on the islands etc was less than $3000. and we ate like kings morning noon and night.
I agree, $1200 will get you to Europe.

yer it now it up to 12 years old, it's a joke a 12 year old is classed as an adult for room rates, meals etc, yet their kids club goes up to 14 years old, just a big money grab.
as I've never been I have no idea about what food places are around but even at $30 ea for dinner which will be basic going by mainland prices, have a drink or 2 snacks here and there it's going to get scarey. The company we are going there for have gotten corp rates for room , but after looking around the corp rate is dearer than upgraded room rates inc breaky that are on the net.
We get no time away from work any other time of year so going to just have to suck it in and book and pay and enjoy.
This 1 is a ripper, it is $600 for a day trip to the reef, you get morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, $600 for the family then they ask you to bend over and get reamed if you want to add snorkeling to that trip, fuk me, do I have to pay to walk on the beach as well.

we're working on trying to see what packages we can get but only including breaky, no other meals but guaging by breakfast being $35 per adult, $17 per kid, dinner will be more no doubt and lunch well I guess it depends what we want.

1 thing though is there just your average cafe, takeaway stores on the island close to the resorts or is it only the various resorts to dine at.

There is a marina village a bit like Sanctuary Cove . Shops, minimart, restaurant etc.
Courtesy bus runs between the resort accom and the village .

Oh Lord, please forgive me for getting involved in such a trash thread, but I just had to.
The devil made me do it

A 35 point beating at their home ground, how sweet it is.

And I don't even barrack for the bombers.

No doubt about it, Hamilton Island is an expensive place to holiday, especially with kids adding to the bill......but it's a special place and a great gateway to the Whitsundays.

We holiday up there with friends regularly as they have a substantial boat moored there. We are able to cut costs by having Dan Murphys deliver a booze order for us, we order food for on the boat from Coles at either Airlie Beach or Cannonvale which is delivered to the boat, specialist seafood and meats can also be ordered like that and delivered to the marina for us.

There is a bakery, fish and chip shop, Marina Cafe (great cheap lunches and rocky road smoothies).

The restaurants and yacht club are expensive, Qualia is far too dear, and the people at the general store should be locked up . I cannot bring myself to pay $80 for a carton of Coronas at the bottle shop either.

I've just booked a trip with air fares from Adl to Bris for $135 each/each way, and $56 each/each way Bris to HI for a family holiday in July which includes hiring a big cat for a few nights and then a luxury house on the west side and then a week out on the mate's boat - all for what I would call reasonable money, for what should be a fantastic time with the family.

If you go there and pay through the nose for everything then it's going to get out of hand fairly quickly - it's just that sort of place. And I don't reckon you get value out of the place just by flying in and out and staying on the island. I think it should be part of a holiday, but not all of it.....otherwise it's far too expensive.

I've also been there for 10 days (last year) and it's rained every day...good luck..

I get jetstar and Qantas alerts for cheap flights and booked them on thursday. Arrive 15th and back to Adl on 29th after a couple of nights in Brisbane enroute. Good cheap tour is over to Dent Island on the ferry, lunch and tour island golf course in buggies. Have fun.
