Sucks.

I'm sure Hulkenberg won't be too happy looking at Sutil's ass.

Should we start a pool on how many positions Weber loses by the first turn?

I read it was Sutil that Kimi was penalized for impeding?

Raikkonen receives grid penalty for blocking
Luke Smith Mar 23, 2013, 7:26 AM EDT

motorsportstalk.nbcsports.com

Kimi Raikkonen has received a three place grid penalty for blocking Nico Rosberg during qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Rosberg protested to his team about Raikkonen during the final qualifying session after his lap was compromised by the Lotus driver at turn 14.

Following a stewards enquiry, the decision was taken to relegate Raikkonen three places on the grid.

Raikkonen, who won the season-opening Australian Grand Prix last weekend, had qualified seventh during a close qualifying session that saw the Q3 runners tackle a drying circuit on intermediate tires. He struggled to repeat his practice form from Friday, and qualified seventh, although he did start P7 in Australia en route to the race win.

Following this penalty though, Raikkonen will start P10. Subsequently, Jenson Button, Adrian Sutil and Sergio Perez will all move up one place on the grid.

Kimi Raikkonen, 1m 52.970s, P7
Romain Grosjean, 1m 37.636, P11
Raikkonen struggled badly in FP3, but was happier with his car in qualifying until the balance went awry in the wet in Q3. He was also unhappy to be given a three-place grid penalty for impeding Rosberg in Turn 14. Grosjean should have made Q3, but ran off the road trying to go faster in Q2, just after setting the fastest first sector time.

Thanks to the OP

First off I would like to thank the OP for starting and keeping the thread current with interessting info and cool linls. I really missed knowing what was going on...

I would also like to know if there are fellow canadians here and where are they watching the coverage. We have tsn that covers qualifing with a bear minimum of time... 1 hour 5 minutes and cuts the driver interviews. We also get some corerage from a french station rds. They try but are clueless to what is going on, to make matters worst, they talk durring the team radios and translate all wrong... I miss speed's coverage. I get my tv from bell express view... Any help would be apreciated!

I understand the difference between the Bridgestone and the Lotus situation. But while the advantage for Lotus may be inadvertent, I don't think you could call it serendipitous, could you?

It seems to me it's a natural outcome of optimizing your tires based exclusively on the feedback from one chassis. In retrospect, it seems natural that some advantage should accrue to Lotus.

Qualifying was interesting. The commentators pointed out that the Red Bull was running considerably less wing than the rest of the field. What they didn't mention is that it looks like the Ferraris are as well.

That would explain why the Red Bull and the Ferrari qualified so well. But might it also be a problem for both teams if it rains hard on Sunday? After all, both will have a lot less downforce than the field. And low downforce on a sopping wet track is a ticket to the back for the pack.

I would guess that both teams hope they never have to go to full wets on Sunday.

If Greg can't help you, I would suggest looking for online feeds in English (or French?)

Look here.

The serendipity lays within the inadvertent nature of the fact that Renault was chosen to provide Pirelli with a chassis.

It isn't a lucky happenchance that Renault (now Lotus) are able to access the Pirelli data while maintaining the donor car. How anyone thought that they could be isolated from tyre test feedbck while maintaining the car for Pirelli is curious.
